So I have driven 165 miles since filling up and I am down to 1/4 tank of gas. What kind of mileage r u guys getting out of a tank of gas? I am thinking I might want to change my plugs wires etc. to see if that helps. What do u think?

Well...that is a fairly common question here on Mud. There are several factors that play into the gas mileage of the 80. My tanks range anywhere from 240-360 miles (19-22gal on avg. fill up) depending on ambient temp, freeway and road speeds, wind speeds, and the list goes on and on and on....

If you have not base lined your rig, that will always help make it run more efficient.

I'm right there with you. I also plan to do the plugs, wires, rotor, and cap soon, I hope it helps.

I'm stock and less than 10MPG is bad even for an 80.

Figure on about 12 miles per gallon as the norm. Per fillup, ~18 gallons, I am getting around 250 miles.

I REALLY hope mine will do 12 or more after a good tune up...

My Ultragauge says I average 12.5 mpg over the past 1500 miles. That puts me at about 250miles per tank. I mainly am around town and up the canyon occasionally for some snowshoeing, seldom on the freeway.

Someday I will make a road trip in the beast and get a read on that.

260-320 before the light comes on.

it's more like 260 when all I do is drive to work and home and errands around town.

it's more like 320 when I am majority highway miles.

The cold starts in the winter are putting mileage down closer to 260-280 a tank.

I have almost exactly 5 gallons left in auxillary when the light comes on. Every time.

I get roughly 250-300 out of a tank of gas. I am waiting to see if things improve because I just got a new fuel filter installed and my injectors cleaned.

I get about 11mpg. around town, on the highway, pulling a trailer, doesn't really seem to matter still gets the same mpg's.

Looking like a 14mpg with a 3FE and new exhaust and 02 sensors, Measured on 6 tanks of gas

Good grief! I can barely get in the 200's. I'm only on 285's. I've done lots of PM including plugs, wires etc.
Dreaming of a 4.2 Atlas motor :D

3FE versus Atlas fuel economy

In the immortal words of Austin 3FE Power, "Yeah, Baby!"

3FE Commuting 195miles-205 miles to the light coming on.
3FE Highway 65mph 280-290 miles

LLR Atlas Commuting 300-310 miles to the light
LLR Atlas Highway 65MPG 390-420 miles to the light

The Yellow Light comes on pretty precisely at 20 gallons depleted from tank.

Atlas is giving an extra 100+ miles per tank reliably. On 85 octane gasoholic E10 even.

that puts me at 260 at 20 gallons when the light comes on. that's corrected for the 35s. actual odo was 220ish. this is 35" trxus on stock wheels n gears, arb front, sliders 4" lift and no roof rack. when I had bfg 315 mt's and a 55 mile round trip hwy commute I'd average 270 miles on the odo so just over 300 corrected. many of those miles with a P0401.

yes, mileage brings teh suck... but it's a 5500lb heavy duty 4door 7passenger all wheel drive suv that can handle just about anything you can throw at it off road. accept that for what it is... and you won't cringe when you think about your mpg's...

Im on 285s and on average the light comes on at around 200-220 miles, which adjusted is closer to 210-230miles or so.

Usually takes 19.5-21 gallons when the light comes on.

Adjusted, i am averaging about 12.5 hwy on 33's. Sucky.

Ditto, exactly like mine,, all baselined

I reset the clock everytime I get gas, then subtract how much fuel I drop in.

On 315's - I got around 220-230 on the odo. which should be around 250-260 actual.

Was getting 175-190 (before NEW)
Plugs
Plug wires
Air Filter
Dist. cap
Rotor
and adjusted the timing just a hair

After all of this I went up to 200-210 on the odo for about 5-6 tanks

Then I have noticed a differnce using the Lucas fuel additive stuff (bought the big bottle used every other tank, lasts about 3-4 months, looks like a big bottle of hangover piss), I have never been a believer in that crap, BUT I would have to say I have noticed a difference. of about 10% in fuel economy. This is over about 10 tanks. Now im back up to 220-230 a tank without correction.

Just to make myself feel better about it I stopped using the Lucas about 6 months ago just to see what would happen, now granted I havnt changed the air filter the whole time either, BUT I am back down to about 200 a tank. I am going to start using the Lucas again today on every other tank and see what happens, over the next few months.

One thing to remember when calculating your miles per gallon - tire ratios and if you have gone to a larger size and have not accounted for the change in ratio, you are short changing you MPGs, along with your speedometer and odometer readings.

That said, with 285s I average about 13.5 MPGs, but I do mostly in town driving. With that, I typically use about 18 - 20 gallons per tank, which holds 25 gallons, so I get around 260 - 300 miles per tank before refills.
