I got just around 45K miles on my last set, does that sound normal?

Also, I paid just over $500 for independent mechanic to replace rotors and pads last time, using OEM. The rotors were $125/each and pads $100 plus two hours labor.

Would I get better wear using Powerstops or DBA? And are there better pads than OEM?

Personally, I went with Autozone Duralast for rotors and pads. Their pads have a lifetime warranty against defect AND wear, so if they wear out, just go in for some new ones. I have read on several other threads that rears wear out faster than fronts. I found the same on my rig, which is why I went with a lifetime part.

By the way, brake job is super easy on the rears. Take off wheel, undo 2 bolts for calipers, take out pads, push in pistons, install new pads, take off rotor and put new ones on, and reinstall.

Rears are extremely easy to do yourself. Worth a try.

Autozone lifetime pads are nice. They are ceramic FYI and they do wear out but, its a no hassle free replacement. They cost a little more upfront too. I've used them in the past, I'm using different pads now.

What is your preference, please? I used Akebono top of the line and Toyota OEM for about the same 50k miles of 70% highway driving, Duralast Gold for slightly less. Haven't tried Duralast MAX - not sure there is a functional difference.

As with everything, there is always a trade-off. Toyota ships bare pads, btw. No other hardware. MAX claims better shims, etc.

Brakes is one thing i enjoy doing myself. I went with AutoZone pads/rotors front/rear. I think they sell a matched set for both. You'll save a bunch not going OEM. Easy one .

Powerstop / Akebono

Very good quality parts.

All these warranty claims for a wear item like brake pads are of zero value to me.

My rears on both my 100's wear faster than the fronts. 40k is awesome.

If you buy online (recently I used @beno great service!) you can get Toyota OEM rotors and pads for $250 (shipped). Then about 20 mins a side of your time, plus 2 beers.

I dont turn mine when replacing the pads and i never had an issue. I do replace the rotors eventually though. I feel its better to replace the rotors than to resurface.

Right now i get some squeaking with the auto zone kit im using, but this is probably do to all the brake dust i havent cleaned yet. Probably should wash the truck after a few months it needs it...its the one thing im really lazy about. I just cant get myself to wash the cars.

go figure...
