How important is that cone bump stop that sits in the rear springs..? (2 Viewers)

Hi all i have a 80 cruiser and the rear cone bump stop on the passenger side is rusted out and the bump stop is sitting on the bottom of the spring. i have some timbren bump stops coming in but those sit on the out side of where that cone bump stop is.. opinions?
 
not my picture but essentially this is rusted out the spring is still sitting in the bucket okay but its just that bolt area thats not good.

The two outside holes are just drain holes. They fill with crap from above. They should be clear.

You might have to use a helicoil on the threads on the center hole. There is a welded nut above.

Here is a close up of mine, with a helicoil.

yeah that part is completely gone at least just where that threaded hole section is and one of the drain holes.
 
I would cut out any bad metal and weld in new. Rust convert anything left, clean, paint, fluid film...

Can you run without for a while? Sure, just don't bottom out.

lets say i cut out all that bad rust and clean up the surface rust and rust convert and clean and all that but have that bump stop that sits on the frame even bottoming out wouldn't that stop it from doing so?
