Wondering how the the 2LTE adds more fuel. Is it TPS sensor engine rpm and boost that help it decide what to do. Is it a mechanical fuel set-up with and electronic fuel boost compansator.

Reason I'm asking is that I've disconnected my wastegate, increased exhaust size 3", and now it surges at full boost full load on hills. It pulls hard and boost rises to 15 psi and then the red light comes on in the dash and I get like a 500 rpm up dpwn surge.

I'm thinking there is some relation to throttle position, load and boost, as I lift off the throttle a bit it returns to the green light and surging ceases.

Possed the question on toyota diesel madness, no real answers came back.

Any thoughts or knowledge to drop

When the RED light comes on , you are over boosting the sensation is nice pull till it flats out and surges. I didnt have enough time to get it right with my 78. Unfortionately it is a semi electronic engine and there has to be something done to the boost compensater or disconect the safety which causes the red light to come on. I personally would not Fawk with it if it pulls alot better without the EGTs going threw the roof then consider that a bonus. I would wait for a reply or keep trying on TOYOTA DIESEL MADNESS alot of those guys know that moter pretty good. my 2 pennys Aaron

I know little about turbos, but.....
What is the likelyhood you are surpassing the physical limits of the turbo? I've read that when a turbo is taken beyond it's design limits, they surge somewhat like you are describing.

Just a thought... I'm probably way off on this.

it could be a fuel cut off when you hit that boost. Crushers has fooled a bit with those engines with the wastegate disconnected. So he might have figured out the connector to remove. Personally I would use a boost controller and limit it just below this point. At 15 psi the air might be getting pretty warm, you might also be on the cusp of what the head gasket or other weak links can handle. When I went to 13-14 psi on my truck I only had problems. I popped lines off to the IP, split the intake too. At 10 psi I have no issues soo far.

This engines life span is probably measured in hours

ouch, that's gonna be expensive to fix when you cook your engine. thats a small diesel, not renowned for power or torque but i got over 200k completely hassle free on mine before i sold it. drive it like it was meant to be driven, slow and steady.
just trying to save you money~~~

well the hours theory is way off, I know these engines have a bad rep, head gasket and all that, but its been like this for two years and no white smoke.

The turbo is rather large for this engine, I've had rare instances of boost spikes of 20 psi, I think its totally related to fuel, more fuel more boost.

I think there is a relation to the throttle position and electronic fuel cut. If it is totally compensated electronically I'd rather disconnect it and control it myself.

In my opinion these engines have a lot of potential to make power, there just more people who abused theres stupidly and have broken it.

Even just with the stock turbo, there is more potential, to me its just a stupid fuel issue that someone has to have some insight into it.

I remeber that Wayne ( Crushers ) run a 2L-T at 14 PSI .. with the wastegate shimmed .. not sure abut the TE .. send a PM and ask ..
