hello,my daughter was driving her prado LJ78 and previous owner had installed a circulation heater and it needs a Y connector to Tee into the heater hose,so the plastic TEE broke and lost coolant and overheated the engine, head is cracked at all 4 cylinders between the valves.....
ive done a few 2LTE cylinder heads before but that was 10 to 15 yrs ago with toyota cyl head, now that partsouq said cylinder head not available, also done a few 1KZTE with taiwan and china cyl head with no problems,,,,
so nowadays, where and which 2LTE cylinder should i buy?
a friend had recommend milner off road, any body use their cylinder head before?
TIA

Can buy a genuine 3L head, 5L head. Or Made in China.

Canada is probably more lax then US, I tired to buy a new 3l head at the dealer. Filled out all the import paperwork for the truck with a 2lte and they wouldn't sell it to me because it came with a 2lte and not a 3l. 2lte head is discontinued. Cost almost double to get the 3L head from one of the sellers in Canada or UAE. customer chose to get a bare china head. Machine shop moved all the original valves over, ground valves and seats, ground tops of valves to set lash, using original cam. Tested seats to make sure they are hard (soft seats can be an issue with aftermarket heads) . He says he checked everything he could check, looks OK. I didn't try the 5l head I'm pretty sure you would have to run the 5L cam atleast, the cam bearings are different between the 2, There may be more differences, maybe the valves are bigger on it since it has such a big bore?

That's not correct about cam bearings. They are the same across the 2L, 3L and 5L. P/N 11802-54020 for a STD set.

You are right about the 5L valves being bigger, but there is at least one thread on MUD confirming someone running a 5L on a 2L-T (or possibly a 2L).

Thank you sir

Great places to pick up Toyota spares! Some Aladdin's Caves in Inanam :D

The 5L cylinder head is considerably cheaper (the engine is still being produced and fitted to multiple new models these days) than the 3L head, from Japan at least: Toyota 11101-54150 (1110154150) HEAD SUB-ASSY, CYLINDER - https://www.amayama.com/en/part/toyota/1110154150

That said, I don't know how the larger valves would affect engine performance across the rev range, and I haven't seen a detailed report of using a 5L head on a 2L.
It would be great if it does fit, the 2lt already has cutouts in the head gasket to fit the valves, I don't know how much bigger you could go without hitting the headgasket/bore. I guess I rushed to conclusions on the cam bearings, I think where I bought them only mentioned 2l and 3l.
