So I've tried getting the pcv valve out and the grommet on my 1997 fzj80 and can't get it, how do I get this thing out

Yank it. The grommet will be harder to get it because it'll crumble. Just grab a pair of channel locks and go to town. There is a baffle just under it that'll catch the pieces of the grommet. Be sure to grab anything that falls in.

Keep wiggling. The metal valve usually comes out first. Then when you try getting the grommet out doe of it falls down in to the valves. Just try to use a pick to get it out. It's rubber that has dried out so it shouldn't hurt anything.

I like to do it with the valve cover off, of course. You can do it with it upside down. There is a pretty fancy baffle inside the valve cover so the parts won't really fall into your valves, but they will be trapped in there pretty good. If it's off and you start flushing that baffle system with soap and water you'll be surprised by all the crap that you can continue to flush out!

Got it replaced luckily mine wansnt to old so it wasn't falling apart took about 10 minutes One more thing cigarette light port went out replaced fuse still not working?

The cig lighter outlet also has a fusible link right at the outlet. May have blown that or intermittent at the crimps - you'll have to pull the center fascia off to get to the 'guts'.

cheers,
george.

^ this was the issue on a friend's 80. Took forever to figure it out until I finally found a post about it.

I use a small piece of wood ( 1x2x4) as a fulcrum and grab the valve with a pair of big vice grips or channel locks and then pry it out.

This and some hemostats to pick the pieces out of the valve cover.

Luckily mine just came out, on the cigarette port I took out the ashtray and saw some wires were disconnected so I pushed from the back of the cigarette port then with a little force it just popped out then I just connected the wires and it worked!

Heres my .2 cents. Dont buy any other brand PCV grommet other than the OEM one. They will fall apart easily.

Here's the old one,Got a Toyota one off of amazon

I believe too I read about a "blow torch method"
to indeed "slightly" heat up the PCV rubber - so it stays intact and the needle nose plier it out -

Just did this. Thanks for the leverage advice.

OCD I'll admit, but I rigged a bearing splitter to lift the PCV valve straight up.
