how do I get this broken bolt out?

where can I source these studs? autozone, etc? I also noticed while disassembling things one of those cone washers you have to tap out with a brass tool was missing. (someone else lost it before I had a chance to) where can I find one of those guys? while I'm at it, the pins that the brake pads slide on were in horrible shape, the caliper otherwise was dirty but fine. where can I get a new one of those guys?

I got them from the Toyota dealer, and they are cheap like 1.50 each. I went ahead and bought 12 along with new nuts. As for getting the cones out, no amount of tapping, hammering etc. made mine move. I ended up doing some very gentle prying on the drive plate until it pushed the cones out a little. Then I was able to get them off.

I got my brake refurb parts from Amazon. I didn't do the pins, but new spring clips were about 13 bucks and the new brake pads came with a new set of pad clips. The front pins can look like crap, then are only there to keep the pads in place. The rear pins are important to clean and apply some grease because they are the actual sliders for the floating calipers.

Yeah. The stud pulller linked above plus an impact wrench is the only way to go. I pulled all of mine as they were completely stripped. Be sure to run a tap trough the stud hole before putting in a new stud. The threads can get really gunked up and make putting a new one in very difficult. It’s maybe $25 in parts for the puller and a tap but it makes the job stupid easy.

I found a stripped stud on the passenger side. So I prob should go ahead and replace them all. I've found just about everything I need online with the exception of the actual studs. where did you get them? I'm having trouble identifying them.

I don't have any experience with the trail-gear stuff. I just called my local Toyota parts counter and they had everything there in a couple of days. Everything was really cheap, too. Good luck either way.

Same here, very cheap and easy to install. A drop of blue locktite and double-nut to install them, easy.

I JUST did the exact same job. After vise grips didn't work, cutting a slot in the end and using an impact screwdriver didn't work, I went to the local auto parts store and picked up this thing. 30 seconds and the stud was out, super-easy. I went ahead and replaced all six studs and this tool made removal a breeze.

I meant to say "What brand is that one?" there are a ton of them and i would rather not pickup the crap knockoff version.

I picked it up off the shelf at Advance Auto Parts and I threw away the package, but it was less than $20 and convenient.

Yeah - same here. It was either Advanced or O'Reily's. It has the stud end that clamps down as you turn the housing and on the other side is a 3/8" adapter for an impact/socket. It works for a range of stud sizes. I believe those studs are 8mm.

FYI - I just remembered that it is a 3/8 drive on the back. I had to use a 1/2" -> 3/8" adapter to get my impact to fit.

FWIW I didn't need the impact on it, just a 3/8" ratchet. A little gradual force and they broke free with no issues. But if yours are rusted, it's possible the impact will be necessary. I'd try the ratchet first.
