How can I tell if my rear shocks are too short? (1 Viewer)

Here is info Kyle posted in post #65 on the T4R link.

Installed the 675V medium variable rate coils yesterday on the Treaty Oak Offroad GX. The ride is definitely improved when paired with the MRR coilovers and shocks. The medium variable rate coils only provided about 1.75" of lift vs the 2.25" I had with the C59-314 linear coil, but with the improved ride I think i'm going to leave them. I need reduce a little preload up front by about 1/2" to get a little rake back.

Ah, thanks. Yes, I had seen your post before where you said you were at 23.5" hub to fender in the rear, but it's still early and might settle. The reason I ask about the hub to fender distance is because it seems to be a little more accurate than the I got 2.5" or 1.75" of lift.

Your 23.5" hub to fender in the rear is actually higher than mine with my over-inflated rear air bags. I'm going to measure mine again later today, but 23.5" seems to be about 2.5" higher than stock. I've seen some people report the stock rear is around 21" with stock tires and stock air bags.

Anyways, if you could measure again after you think it settles, it would be great. I think that being 23" hub to fender in the rear is like the perfect height for me.

Got it. I didn't see that post on T4R from Kyle, but I think he has a typo. The C59-314 are the front coils, but I know in another post in IH8Mud he said he started with C59-325 linear rear springs.

I will definitely call him when I'm ready to ditch the rear air bags. I have the full MT spring conversion kit in the garage including OME 2895E rear springs which I'm going to sell since I've convinced myself that progressive rear springs is the way to go.

Yes, you figured out the linear Kyle started with. I really like the progressive rear springs. Handled a few hundred pounds in the back with no sag this week. I have Firestone helper bags installed for when I push them too far. I will add a build page at some point. My build very mild but may be nice for people to see a simple version.

crikeymike = Dobinsons Mike. That's me!!

Hahaa. I've left the GX470 stuff mostly to Kyle, but he doesn't have threads like I have on the 4Runner forum

GX470 rear heights differ a bit from the 4th Gen on the variable rate coils, but the linear rate heights are the same as the V8 4th Gen stuff.

Thanks for the insight. I suspected that the V8 4R measurements were similar to the gx470 but didn’t know for sure.
