Thinking about buying this 2009 gx470. Its from Illinois so it has some rust. Would you avoid this or is it ok? Thanks for your opinion.

Not great but not the worst. I bet mine is in about that condition underneath all of my efforts with a wire wheel and WoolWax.

Question is, what's the price? You'll need to factor in dealing with the rust for the rest of the life of the truck. Is the rest of it in good shape? Has it been maintained?

Check on the structural integrity of the radiator support, the frame kick down on the passenger side by the AC drain, all the body mounts, and the rear bumper beam.

The rest of it looks good and it seems that its been maintained well. Asking is $11k. I like to do all my own work so rust is almost a deal breaker for me. Im leaning towards a pass so far. Thanks for the input.

Agree on not great, but not terrible either. For as rusty as it is, it would be worth looking inside the frame with an inspection camera, especially where the AC line drips on to the PS frame rail (behind the front PS tire). If that checks out, the rest of the rig is in good condition (including the interior), and it has good maintenance records, $11K isn't a bad deal. BUT, you'd need to get it from IL to NV which will cost at least a couple of grand either in shipping or plane tickets/gas/time for you to drive it, so it's really not a $11K rig. AND, you'll definitely break bolts working on it.

There is too many of them out there to deal with that much rust. Especially in your area!
I completely agree with this. And this is just the corrosion you can see. Most of the frame will rot from the inside out and not the outside in.

Honestly, if you're already 50/50, I would pass. If you're not completely sold on it, it's only going to lead to frustration later on. Take your time.
