I second that comment - cheap insurance and a baseline lets you know where you're starting from. I relied on reputation once and not metioning any importers by name, was surprised at what was promised and payed for but was never done.

Welcome to the club - oh boy now the disease has taken root.

Never ever be afraid to raise a ruckus when it is warranted. If someone is ripping you off, taking someone to task is your duty, so they don't rip off the less fortunate. Its a Karma builder.

...and repack your birfs, you might be likely due for brake service too.
as far as the engine, if it's running better already with new filters and if the compression is still decent, it should run for a long time yet. the most you might be looking at in the near future is injector and maybe pump service.

I would be changing all FLUIDS and greasing every grease nipple and stripping BIRFIELDS and checking wheel bearings etc.

Check that the xfer case and gearbox have correct levels and the xfer/gearbox seal has not gone also.

Then I would be checking the wiring and making sure nothing is amiss and nothing is connected direct to the battery.

Just to be safe.

If it makes you feel any better, your exposure is less than a thousand bucks for a pump and injector rebuild. With our fuel, rotary pumps are a limited life item anyway so you might as well start saving for it.

I wouldn't panic about it though. Run a good additive with an emulsifier to dry things up and then Bio-bor for a while next summer to make sure you kill any algae problem.

Hey thanks for the tips all, I have been running a good additive. I was gonna get the injectors rebuilt soon. And once the weather warms up a little( hopefully next week) I was going change most of the fluids.

On a positve note, the snow in the mountains is getting quite good so I took the truck to go ski touring.
I took it up pretty far up a deactivate logging road( lots of steep water bars and rocky type terrain) And the truck did super well, not once did it hit bottom or had to spin the tires. And I got to use the pto winch to pull a tree out of the road on the way home the next day!

Rob Millson (LCI) is not doing Land Cruiser work as a full time thing any more. If you're looking for help, it's me or Steve at EBI. I probably work on more diesels than Steve does.

As for the 3B - very robust little engine. I would not worry about the engine itself all that much as long as you keep it cool and do regular oil changes (use something like Rotella T) that has a traditional additive package in it still. Gasoline engine oils will not make for a healthy diesel - not enough wear preventatives in it any more.

The rotary injection pumps are not very robust. Use a really good lubricity enhancer or a mix of about 10% bio diesel. Keep your fuel clean and well lubricated and the pump will last a lot longer. Do some research on fuel additives, many of them are garbage - offering virtually no improvement over dry diesel.

As for your filter situation, just do a few changes over the next while and keep an eye on the water drain.

Many Cruisers have poor maintenance records, so expect to do a fair bit of regular maintenance until it's up to scratch.

If you need parts, we keep lots of things in stock, but I've been very busy lately with staff changes and new computer software going into place. Things are coming along again nicely as of about mid day yesterday (2010 11 24) and it looks like I might have a long-time cruiser head joining be back under the Radd Cruisers banner sometime next week.

RAMullen retiring from big rigs? Lured back by the big Canadian dollar?:p

I use rotella-t as well i have an 89 jetta with 560k kms that still runs great

The maintenance continues.

the knuckles do leak a little bit of grease But i checked inside the fill hole and all looks good,

I will rebuild the birfs come spring.

I am changing the gear oil in both diffs, tranny and xfercase today, I noticed that my seal between the xfercase and tranny is done...(overfulll tranny underfull tcase)

thankfully there was still a good amount of oil in the t-case..

I dont have anywhere near the amount of money , tools or space neccesary to properly fix the seal right now... This bypass seems like it would work well.

https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/95870-tranny-transfer-case-bypass-hose.html

But no one in town here has anything metric.. the only metric I found was female.

1) How long does it take for the fluid to migrate over to the tranny if I where to change the fluid again?

2) I read somewhere on the forum that if I cleaned the breather that it would tend to decrease the migration of the oil,is this true?

3) If I change the oil would I be okay to drive for the weekend with it.. Then order a bypass hose from somewhere?

Thanks Guys.

that depends on how bad the seal is, if it is bad then you playing with a WAY more money than it will cost to replace the seal.
if it isn't too bad then a long time

but

is it a risk you can afford to take?

right, okay well I am not in a position to take damaging risks, Now about
this bypass hose thing. It seems like others have pretty positive opinions about it.

But it seems like the majority of people using this are driving 40series, I haven't seen any of the 70series guys voice an opinion about it. Is it an acceptable moderate use(only twice a week) temporary solution. ( Until weather and cash flow improve)

because my pto is in the way,

1) One option is to drill and tap a new system that would allow flow back to the t-case

2)OR would the fill plug to fill plug work even with the droop caused by the PTO.

Im really thankfull about all the info, hopefullly one day il know enought to help others on here
