accidently start the truck in 3rd gear? I was cruising around last night with the kiddo's having a grand ole' time and i came to a stop light...well i had turned around to say something to the kids and left the truck in 3rd. When i turned back around the light was already green, forgetting i was still in third i released the clutch and pressed the accelerator. She didn't stall but moved slowly...it took me about 5-10 seconds before she started moving faster. After i was back up to 25mph i then realized i had forgotten to go back to first. So how bad is it on the truck if i do that? Very bad or not very bad?

Not bad at all. It gearing is somewhat self protecting. You couldn't go fast because the gearing wouldn't allow you to. The higher gears don't have the torque to get the weight of the vehicle moving, can be done as you experienced, but it will be sloooow.

The only bad thing that happens is feeling stupid. (Not a slam)

Well luckily my daughter is only 2 and can't poke fun at dad yet...so i was lucky.

i took off in 4th in the diesel 45, to prove a mate wrong... but that was bad for the clutch i think (i was 18 and silly)

I end up doing occasionally if my mind is on other things. Doesn't harm anything, but as Bad sez, you may have to slip the clutch and that, if done regularly, could wear it out faster.

my clutch slips like a b!tch now... can't even reverse up my friends driveway without a runup
