:confused:Any of you guys bought a new carb lately? I though 3 duck tails was quite a bargin.
I do not know how many parts is inside of a fj60 carb but I think my old 78 carb had 800:eek:

True dat!
One of the local (Land Cruiser "friendly" )shops in town quoted me $900 to rebuild my carb.
$300 sounds very reasonable to me, specially if the job is well done.

Just got my Jim C Carb back and installed. Its a completely differnt truck. I now have to retract my statement that the 60 with the 2F is "dangerously underpowered". Its still underpowered but just not "dangerously so" ;)

The truck runs perfect now. starts, Idles and actually acclerates!!

3 cheers for Jim C!! money well spent!!

Perhaps Jim has a dick ID for his phone and he screens you out. He is busy doing what he is very good at, and has plenty of happy customers who dont blindly bag on him in a public forum.

He answered my email within 2 days, and I had my new idler pulley in 4 days after that.

Hodag

Sheesh, I guess you're one of the lucky ones...Thanks for the name slinging, Asshat.

be nice..

The first time I emailed Jim, was with the same questions that have already been asked in this forum. It took him awhile, but when I did get an email, he politely explained that he had been busy, and just had not gotten to his emails. Gave me a quote and a detailed explanation of what the rebuild entails. As soon as my cruiser fun hits $300 and isn't being drained by another implosion, my carb will be on the way. Probably sooner rather than later due to the fact that desmog moved up on my list of things to do, thanks to a broken vane in the smog pump, So I need it redone anyway. The word of mouth is the best advertising a guy like that could ask for.

here is part of the email jim sent me...

Here is a break down of a performance carb rebuild:
- Disassemble and Inspect for wear
- Clean in Chemical Tank
- Replace Parts: Float, Needle, Seat, Power Valve, Secondary Diaphragm, Copper & Aluminum Sealing Washers, Gaskets & Seals
- Rejet as necessary
- Modify for improved performance
- Test run on a Cruiser Engine
- Dial in Idle Speed and Mixture
- Return Shipping via UPS Ground

How do you think he could dial in idle speed and mixture for me? I am at 5000 feet elevation and he is at just above sea level.

I have heard nothing but great stuff about Jim's work. I oughtta see if he'll rebuild a Motorcraft 2150 for my Duster's slant 6 :D

Where is Jim C located? Are any of you guys running these carbs on CA smogged vehicles? I definitely have hard starting and 10-12 mpgs on my FJ 60.

Sloan:

Jim is located in Lancaster, Ohio. His screen name is FJ40Jim.

Alot of Cali guys use him or Mark Algazy for carb rebuilds.

Yes, it will work for California smog. Yes, its worth the money
for him to rebuild.

HTH

I thought that I could rebuild my carb also and went about trying my hand at it and was sadly disappointed. I put it back together and it didn't even run. Then I took it apart again and couldn't figure out what I did wrong. That's when some dudes on Pirate told me about Jim C. I sent him the parts in a bag and he sent me back a carb that runs great to this day! I have an '83 FJ60 now as well and he'll get that carb someday too.

Jim has always helped me out. And I have yet to send him something. He has sent me stuff free of charge. Like an idle jet. From my dealing with him and everything I have seen online he does. I'd say he is the best man for the job. There is a lot more that goes on in those carbs as far as adjustments than just replacing parts and cleaning. Float levels, and all those linkages have to be in spec just right. On top of that you can send him your distributor and he will tune that also.

I have done two carb rebuilds. The first one took a month due to a lost part but runs great. Second one took 2 days and runs like crap. Well worth the 300 and the piece of mind that it was done right and all you have to do is take it out of the box and hook it up and go.

This was my first build. I wouldn't wish this s*** on anyone.

Seems like a few folks here have done rebuilds. I have a couple of good 2F carbs laying around and I thought I might re-jet one for E-85. Anybody familiar with the float composition/material? Ethanol is not kind to certain kinds of materials.
