My 80 has no hoodliner aka bonnet insulator. Being a ye olde tired 625 k km + 80 series with 1hz diesel and aftermarket Genie headers it's rumbly and resonant and very noisy low down in the audio spectrum. Part of that is due to the exhaust (Aussie-made Redback 2.5" system behind the Genie headers), but most is due to the 80 being base model, with almost no NVH insulation damping anywhere in the engine bay or inside the cabin.
Toyota genuine hoodliners (part 53341B with various full numbers depending on build time) are actually not expensive - currently allfourx4 spares here in Australia has them listed at A$198 each and Amayama quotes me A$180 for 53341-60110. Amayama also says there is an OEM replacement with number 53341-60020 pricing at a little less. The kicker with Amayama is shipping as they're huge (not much smaller that an actual hood/bonnet).
This is the detail out of Toyodiy relevant to my 80's build phase:
53341B
INSULATOR, HOOD
53341-60010 (01/1990 - 07/1991) 1 $125.85
53341-60020 (08/1991 - 12/1991) 1 $293.25
53341-60110 (01/1992 - 07/1992) 1 $279.37
I know being a US based forum, the prevelance of belief/interest in Dynamat products is high (!), and even I've looked at Dynamat's hoodliner product before, but have not yet found anyone here in oz with a landcruiser that has that product used under the bonnet.
Tru-Fit carpets which is an Australian maker of moulded vinyl flooring, mats, Resomat, etc. now also does bonnet/hood liner/insulator pads.
Again not seen one yet as they're fairly new. Just wondering that, putting stuff like Dynamat aside, if OEM Toyota bonnet/hood liner/insulators are going to be a better product that aftermarket ones (such as the ones Tru-Fit sells)? I don't yet know the pricing on the Tru-Fit ones (might call up about that today as they're based in Melbourne, VIC).
