Doesn't matter, same owners and a lot of the same people anyway.

ih8mud and FJcruiserforums are not owned by the same folks.

but mud doesn't have a link rule like the blue forum.

Just letting "random" air in through the vent or scoop seems like it could do little good or even some harm. The air is not directed - it simply comes in and creates positive pressure under the hood. Couldn't this reduce the "ease" at which air is flowing through the radiator(s) and other places the Toy' engineers intended to have air flowing?

wow.. been hangin out in the blue forum for a while and i'm startin to miss this place... seems like a lot of the anti FJc crowd has coold off a little

I haven't heard of anyone who had done this mod who has any regrets or damage as a result. I'm going to hold off on the front scoop for the moment and see how things work/look with just the Raceace hood louvers. If they are sufficient, I probably won't do the front scoop.... at least not now. As far as the Louvers go, I'm very happy. Good quality, etc... The instructions are very good. Even though you have to take a cutting wheel to the hood, it looks like an easy job. I'll let you all know once I get them on. I'll post some pics. I've almost figured out how but if any mac users out there can tell me how to shrink the photo, I'd be much obliged.

In the case that I showed in the earlier post, the air flow is pretty well directed: we wanted air to flow over the compressor, and also to simply convect out when stationary, so one outlet is the louver. The larger idea is to cool the whole engine bay, and we made outlets at the very back of the bay by converting the cabin air intakes into engine bay outlets. So the flow is from the front to the back over the top of the engine and with enhanced flow over the compressor. Use of recyc vs. vent with the A/C is the only work around we had to implement for the air intake issue.

This would look kind of cool.

So, After recieving my RaceAce louvers, I went to their website and learned they had just came out with a new Hi-Flow version of the louvers. They have twice the number of vents so should release twice as much heat. I'm going to send the standard ones I have back to OkOffroad and have them charge me the difference (about 25 bucks) for the Hi-flow model. I cant wait to do the install. I'm gonna do it myself....I'm a little scared, but excited. It is just tough to get over the mental hump of taking an angle grinder to your hood! So, if any of you are going to order these louvers from OkOffroad, make sure you specify if you want the standard or the hi-flow.

Rear hood louver? Who has these and where do they go? I got the Hi-Flow runcool vents, and I'm really happy with them. They roughly double the amount of hot air escaping compared to the standard louvers. I will FINALLY be getting my truck back after over two months in the shop. I guess it took a while to get a new powdercoat on the front bumper and there was a little damage to the front right that took a bit longer to fix. Anyhow, I'll be installing the louvers as soon as I get the truck back this tues or wed. I'm not sure If I will bother to make a rain diverter or not. I guess it will depend on where I put the louvers.

Oh, Ok. I've seen that one before. That will look nice. Show us some pics when you get it in!

Triple threat

I now have my full set of three louvers on the truck. The rear, long louver now does the job of the air intake cut through (that'll make sense if you read my first post), so arguably, I don't need the cut through anymore.

My major issue with the cut through was that, being the air intake for the cabin, if the A/C was set to exterior air, it'd suck in engine bay air. Yuk. But I never use exterior air - I always have my system on recyc. I found a problem with this in that the A/C would tend to switch the recyc off all by itself. That was annoying until a saw a post someplace that said that if you hold down the recyc button for more than a couple of seconds, it locks the system into recyc. I'm now totally happy with the full set of air flow through mods that I have and will not be patching up the cut through.

Hole in the hood near the windscreen for the thin louver:
