I bought Mr. Lou's for the hood struts, but they don't seem capable of lifting the hood up by themselves without manual aid. Is this the case with everyone else?

Yes it is

Just ordered the Lou's, set of 4 shipped with 'Facebook7' coupon code was $71.00, can't beat that!
The listed prices are even lower than whats above now.

Thanks for mentioning the code. Used it and Just received/ installed a set from Mr. Lou on my '99 LC. Another happy customer! Easy install!

Does anyone know if there's another discount code for Lou's for this purchase? I need to replace my hood struts

The Facebook7 code worked just last week...

Mr Lou Facebook7 code

Ordered mine today, code works

I just replaced my rear hatch struts with Mr. Lou's and no more sag! Works great and I no longer bang my head on the hatch since it stays fully open.

Just ordered me a set of Mr. Lou's. Fronts won't hold the hood any more. Facebook7 code worked fine for 7% off.

Thanks,
Jason

Thanks!!

Just got the hood struts from Mr. Lou's today. Took 10 mins to install. Excellent deal! Highly recommended.

Installed hood and lift gate struts from Mr Lou's today. Quick and long-overdue fix to a nagging problem. I am 6'2" and kept whacking my forehead on the sagging lift gate. Not to mention the hood almost took my hand off changing the oil last time.

Mr. Lou sells em on EBay for right at $33 with free shipping. Use the code and get a discount on his website and you still have to pay for shipping.

Can anyone tell me the secret to removing the old hood struts? Just whack it with a hammer? Pry gently? What's the secret?

Use a wrench to unscrew the ball studs from the body.

My Lou struts barely lasted 2 years. They don't go up anymore. :bang:

I think you are the first to post anything negative. Do they hold the hood in place when open? That is really all they are meant to do. Or do you have them on the back?
Anyone else finding Lou's struts lack in the longevity department?
