Hi All-

My first MUD post. I just got an OEM hood latch to replace one that had the spring post head worn down so small it would slip thru hole and fall out. I would like to paint the new latch and the old good one, but I don't know if the rubber pad comes off of the latch some how for proper painting. It looks to be attached on both sides and I hate to ruin a new latch by tearing the pad out. Also, on closer inspection, I see the pad on "good old latch" is worn nearly to a point and should be replaced if possible.

Again, my first post here, but I have been reading and appreciating the collective wisdom for over a year now. Thanks!

Great photo and purpose built rig. I haven't tried replace my rubber hinge pads, YET. I just did a search and don't see any threads, I'm sure one exists though.

There is a Cruiser Guru/Parts Man/Aisan carb technician who would know. He is @65swb45 of Mark's Off Road. MOR has all sorts of cool stuff like this—> FRONT SHOCK TOWER EXTENSION'S

These are pretty cool too —>QUICK HINGES built by a forum member.

Great glamour shot of your rig. Probably best to just replace both and leave them natural or just tape off the rubber if you can't get it off. If one is worn out the other is probably close.

Thanks for the props Mark. Better than most of my info-mercials!

To the OP: like @Disasterman said, just put some masking tape over the rubber and paint away. Even if you could pull the rubbers off (which I do not believe is possible), the bonding would be compromised by the effort, negating any advantage.

SOR does not even list it as a part, but it is an extremely simple part, probably could find some suitable grommet or rubber stopper to use. I would not go without it, your paint will probably get torn up without it. You probably should replace both hood latches together anyways, if one failed the other one has been used just as much and would also be about to fail.

@Bearzerker I like that scabbard. Do you recall where you found it?
Hey Big Red. If you are referring to the tan gun bag hanging behind the seats, I think I ordered that from Bass Pro. It's called Mud River I think, about $120. It's a pretty slick deal for extra space, but I also appreciate it's "back draft" stopping abilities as I usually cruise with the top off.

Thanks guys. Tape it is.

This rig kind of fell into my hands. It's a fun story, but being new here, I may save it for another thread. Anyway, I am not sure yet where I want to go resto-wise, but likely as original as is comfortable ;)
