has anybody built a home made contraption to do tire truing ?

I think I have about figured out how to make one (in theory), but not sure how to manage unintended camber.

Not to mention the fact that this is totally inaccurate. Even if the rim was true, without mechanically regulating the tire rotational speed, the depth of the cut, and the perpendicular speed of the saw movement, there is no way that this is accurate. This also assumes that the construction of this jig is true to begin with.

Do yourself a favor and play devil's advocate with your next Google search, there are many, many reasons not to do this. Before modern tire tech (pre 1970's) this was common and needed. Now it's only done for race cars, for traction, not balance. Wheels are often not centered on the hub when mounted, so the only way to 'true' them is on the vehicle (as in your Ford video) but the moment you loosen the lugs you throw it off true again, only with less tread now. And of course with any homemade device, you're more likely to screw the camber up than get it right.

one of the uses is to correct for a scalloped tire. Scalloping usually happens from an alignment problem and once the tire is scalloped it will wear like that to the end. So if one was to correct the issue they then could resurface the tire and it wear normally once again and for the rest of it's life.
