Well,
I decided to finally download the photos from my expirement in bumper fabrication. rear cross member lost about 4" off the top. main stays are 2 x 3 3/16th wall tube attached to 1/4" plate the goes around the sides and below the frame rails. the space on the outer plate is gapped to clear the body mounts. The side wings are 1x1 1/8" wall tubing with 1/8" plate all around.
total time??? about 20 or so hours, a lot of scrap tubing from my old shop and a 4'x4' peice of 1/8th wall for the skin.

this will lift up onto the rails once you clear the exhaust pipe ( had to relocate the bracket anyways) attaches with 4 of the existing tow bar points and will have 4 more grade 8 1/2" bolts going through the rails.
its not pretty but it is effecitve.

Special thanks to Slee for the tire carrier spindle. also big thanks to Trivan Truck Body, my past empoloyer for letting me use the shops shear and brake and scrap steel to put this together.
Dave

With a dad that looks like that, your kids must have a lot of nightmares. :flipoff2: :D

Just kidding. Bumper looks great. That spare looks a lil on the low side though doesn't it? Especially if you end up with a bigger one. Just food for thought, but it looks great.

Wow, you've got some serious strength in the corners. Can't wait for a couple nice pics of it on outdoors somewhere.

Junk,
Yeah the spares about 4 inches on the low side, I plan to extend the riser aobut that much anyways, I was in a hurry as I had quit that job prior to moving and they still let me in to finish it up after the fact. all things considered I am pretty happy with it. It needs some clean up work on the wings and such but I really dont know if I will ever get around to doing it. Hell I only wash my truck twice a year......

man, that thing looks stroooongggg....

Dave, it looks great with the paint and finish (once I got the photos aligned - you have to resize'em dude)). I can attest to how crazy solidly he has built it. Dave had about the perfect bumper building shop facilities. Can't believe you gave up that job and fled down to the rainy city.

man you werent kidding it looks different from when i last saw it!!! do you know how much it weighs? it sure looks good though i have to say. Too bad your leaveing down to there its gonna be one less built 80 up here in Btown

Thanks all,
Mike as to the weight its aobut 125 pounds with the carrier on but not the tire. I could lift it on my won without too much trouble but I used the forklift to mount it on the back as it was more stable to do so.
Dave

Give us some decent pics of it on the rig! :flipoff2:

Note: message from Tooth Fairy not Jaysdead40.
