Hi everyone,
I have decided to install an OME suspension on my HJ61.
I have not done this before and I was wondering if anyone out there could provide some advice on whether to go with firm or medium shocks.
This truck is my daily driver and I do some fishing and camping, but I don't do any extreme four wheeling - which from what I understand is where the firm shocks would come in handy.
Thank you in advance.

actually if you have not bought the suspension kit yet, i would recommend the Belton kit or the Terrain Tamer...
much better bang for th ebuck

cheers

Various companies make adjustable shocks that you can dial in usually by twisting to a new position.

I agree with Wayne, for your type of driving the Beltons would be perfect.

thank you boys!
Is that accurate though - firm for hard core stuff and medium for everything else?

although i have been informed by Peter that i have never done "hard core stuff" i have found that the softer setting for the bush works well since it allows you springs to articulate and the ride is much more comfortable.
med for the road so you have stability
and hard if you are jumping your rig or carrying a heavy load.
cheers

Can I get a ruling on the definition of "hard core stuff" ?? Peter??

I would talk to ARB or a reputable OME dealer. Firm doesn't mean hardcore nor does med mean road. It's more of a system of how much weight you carry and some other factors. You fail to mention any other items like a winch and front bar and how much gear you usually take with you. These are more of the deciding factors that would have you lean towards med or heavy and not necessarly where you are going offroad.

I have the OME setup on my bj70. I also had it on my fj60. I prefer the Heavy front due to the weight of the engine and possibilites of a bar and winch on the front. The rear I usually like a med. The heavy with the xtra leaf is usually too much for me and I don't like the rake it gives. Plus my camping gear is never that heavy. Nice thing about the OME is that you could later add the heavy helper spring if you decide you carry more expedition gear later on.

HTH, Good luck.

I have the heavy spring set (Belton) on my BJ70, and I like it a lot. It rides great, and I can load a lot of stuff for camping into the truck.

Hor the HJ60 that is being renovated at westcoastcruisers.org I bought the Dakar heavy duty. I think the diesel engine asks for a heavy duty in front, and if you plan to load a significant amount of stuff into the truck, the rear should be heavy as well. JMO

If in the near future you plan is buy an bull bar with winch and rear bull bar, roof rack, go with the Heavy duty Dackar suspension / OME .. I don't know about beltons, maybe are so good. But my recomendation is about the future, go with soft shocks and heavy duty springs.

thank you everyone, you've helped me learn a little more about my options.

Seen many a pic of Garys truck and it appears to wheel in some tof the very best trails with ease.

SOA is not for everyone, lots of options to weigh out.

I have heard good things about OMEs Dakar series springs, no first hand knowlege.

I run the DTs on my 61 although it is SOA with stock springs.
They are the perfect stiffness and are great on the trail.
