i can take a look at it next month if anyone is interested in it.

i will have an empty float for the drive back so delivery might be a possibility...

also, if you live in one of the "insurance challenged" provinces we can talk about a LHD conversion.

Just out of interest what does a LHD conversion run, just approximately. I'm shopping for another LC but my wife can't do RHD so it must be LHD. I've found a few really good RHD's at decent prices, but......

Thanks for any info.

Probably in the 5k range I would think in labour.
Plus a parts rig.

thats my guess

I've heard 10k all said and done if done by someone nicely and factory looking.

I think it'd be cheaper to teach the wife to shift with her left hand. Mine has no problem shifting with her left hand in my rig and then shifting with her right hand in her car. It was a different feeling for her but that lasted all of ten minutes.

driving RHD is not an issue for 95% of the people, it is a mind set, if you say "i can't do it" or "i don't want to" then you won't and that is fine by me. each to their own and the last thing anyone needs is someone on the highway driving a vehicle they are not comfortable doing so.

then there is the very few that can't drive RHD and really shouldn't be driving LHD either.

the cost will be what it is, once again we get down to the QUALITY of the conversion, you can do a fan belt conversion for a couple hundred or you can do a nice job for a few grand or if you want factory looking then it could easily go over $10K. power elec options are more of a pain than manual windows and door locks. finding a LHD AC parts can be a bugger. the signal lights and wipers will still be on the opposite side of normal. you need to convert the wipers over to LHD operation.
the swaping of the steering and pedals is the easy part although a brand new LHD steering box is about $2K by itself... suddenly a donor rig makes total sense.

so how clean a swap so you want? then budget for it. a wheeling rig can be a butcher job but a DD with wife and kids most people would want a astetically pleasing job.

the situation now is not can you drive RHD but the province you live in, if that province is exerting pressure to keep RHD off the roads then you have no choice but to do the conversion.

Wayne, that first line is great. How true.

so not knowing, is there postal delivery? do they not use RHD? or are those exempt.

actually, here in Ontario even posties are losing their insurance coverage...

Wayne,
Want to deliver it to the US for me? ;-)

in a couple years
or
we use it as a donor parts truck to build up a US legal full load 60 series...

makes me feel all warm and fuzzy that it wont be me buying this. I really can't justify another right now but it seems like such a great buy. If someone takes it soon then it'll be off my mind!

I really drool when a truck like this comes up. Initially I was going to buy a 61 a few years back but the 81 thing got me.
My cousin has one out east in NS and I hope to acquire it one day. Has all the goodies too:grinpimp:

Thanks for the info. I do have a donor rig available.

Wifes issue with the right hand drive is due to a shoulder problem with the left arm. Can't use a shifter with it routinely. I've owned RHD before (MG's and the like).

I was guessing about 5K so I'm likely in the ballpark.

Thanks again for the info.

Rob M and John at Radd Cruisers did one, I never saw the outcome.

it doesn't look like the original paint...they never came in that color as far as I know. Hopefully its not covering up rust or its not a 20 ft paint job. I contacted the seller asking for more pics...will let you know how it looks.

I received pics from the seller late last week. He was very forthcoming that the truck had been repainted and there were some rust issues. Most appeared minor and didn't concern me, except the front pillars are rusting midway up the windshield. My old 60 had the same problem, and appeared to be rusting from the inside out (via a leaking sunroof perhaps). If it didn't ha ve this problem I would have snatched it up in a heart beat...and I'm sure many others would have done the same.....

might I remind you how much a PTO winch, 12HT mated to a H55F, and cable lockers run for alone separately "IF" you can find them? The cable lockers alone are viewed as the best system Toyota came up with to lock a diff and are nearly impossible to find. If anything the rust should either be looked at as worth fixing for a rig that is not commonly set up or viewed as the ultimate donor rig since you may not need to feel too bad cutting up a pristine cruiser.

If I had the space more than the money I'd buy it myself and use the parts to build up my 40 and stretch the frame to make the ultimate HJ45 (Or would that be a HJ48 with a 12HT?)

I'm also sure the frame is fine so if your 60 has a good body then the swap should be very simple but personally i'd fix the rust since the high top is very nice in my eye along with all the other little goodies a VX model comes with
