I did it and pulled the trigger on a couple hj61, bought a donor for the manual swap, and some associated gear for it, once complete I will sell off. The machine below is the primary rig that will receive all the attention .

As I know little about the 12Ht, other than they are great donk, my tech is very low at the moment, and need some of the subject matter experts to chip in and point me in the right direction.
I have some oil leaks, I have degreased the engine and watched the return of fresh sheens of oil, So question is where is the most common oil leaks within the 12ht general population and what are the general reasons / causes behind it.
Cheers

Around oil cooler, intake manifold, Not sure if they are the leaks that is running down either side of rear of sump, or it could be either rear crank seal or sump gasket, also some sheen appearing below exhuast manifold, near turbo??

Thanks Niffa, any of the other 12ht enthusiasts out there got some experience on these tractors where they have had issues with leaks,

I was chasing leaks all over the place. Then I just realized that my oil pan was pretty rotted out and had been sealed up with silicone.
I also realized that someone had used liquid sealant as a gasket for the oil pan. Basically what was happening is that under pressure, the engine was spraying fine mists and spurts of oil from the pan, and it was seeping out of the pan, and being blown all over the engine from the pan, and collecting in various areas.

So I know now that I need a new pan and gasket.... too bad 12HT oil pans are as rare as a unicorn fart here in the states.

your oil pan doesn't have any oil pressure. chances are if its leaking the air turbulence from the fan is what is blowing the oil around.

Your right. I meant to say "under pressure, the engine was spraying mist from the (old) oil filter, and it was also seeping from the pan etc.

Thanks gents, I have degreased engine , the runs down either side of rear of sump is still there, so I am leading to believe the sump gu, or sealant is shot on the pan , or a main rear crank seal, learning towards a more a pan issue.
With regard to my intake manifold and exhuast manifold, I will need to get new gaskets in time as well.

SIDE PLATES!!!!

They're a prick to get to with the turbo and bell housing in the way, gasket goo and half a case will get you out of trouble.

Do not go down the rear main path until you've ruled everything else out and even then I'd say leave it until clutch time unless it's spewing out.

You did mention something about gearbox conversion though.....the app doesn't let you see the whole post when you're writing.

Yes conversion is an option, I have got a donor ready, but there is a lot people saying to stay with the auto, as I'm in no rush with conversion I really to give the auto a chance to grow on me
I do like on hwy, 2000rpms 100klms, and plenty of torque to push to 120-130 easily , the rig is going to be tourer with camper, so at this stage the auto doesn't cut for me, I like feeling the motor work via gearbox as opposed to auto,

I'm assuming you guys have 5 speeds in your rigs? Any of you still got your pto set up with a 3" exhaust, I've noticed the space in donor with the 3" is very small to work around the pto set up in main rig

So your the bloke everyone talks about being the only silly bastard left with a 60 in straya with a PTO setup!

:D

Kindest thing someone has said to me in years , The funny thing is I will hardly ever need to use it, as my hj61 is going to more of a tourer and toy, not interested heading into bush and to just bust up s***, been there done that, for me it's the joy of having an ol original cruiser factory set up.
I'm not interested in being or having the latest stuff, just an appreciation of cruising in one the greatest of tuff ( factory )
