3FE oil galley plug failure - how common?

Thanks for the kind words.

I'm are retired fighter pilot...so gauges and alarms are within my comfort zone. I understand, though. It is quite loud off the shelf. I put a layer of electrical tape across the alarm "mouth" to knock it down just a little. If and ever it goes off, I want it to seriously get my attention, though. No, my plug is not really stuffed, just "capped." Living in warm AZ I'm not too concerned about the plug blowing...and that's a fairly involved job to do thoroughly.
Thank you for your service (I'll assume you flew for us 😉).

Aren't you in the film business now? Or is that someone else in AZ with a 60 series?

I'm desmogged so it really isn't that bad of a job. Like anything on a 62, I can always hear a Tiny Hands Japanese Engineer laughing away at least a few times on every job I do on this truck. Such is love...

It was my honor.

That's me. Ooo, been around here a long time. Retired from that, too, now.

Ha, yep!

In the spirit of keeping this thread derailed, I am a Production Designer, primarily commercials. DP, right?

People are going to absolutely hate me for this:

I put JB Weld putty on mine 5 years ago and it's still there.
The first time I had to deal with this was on the road. I pushed some JB weld in and hammered a zerk fitting into the hole behind it. Pretty sure I still have that head around here somewhere with nothing else ever done to the "repair".

Mark...

Ha. PM me if you want to get not derail too much. Yes, but most of the time as a camera operator everywhere. Some 2nd unit and aerials as DP on features, etc. Used to shoot commercials here in AZ as DP.

I laugh because I've been considering this for a few months. I have some extra high heat JB weld from sealing a tiny leak on the top of my oem radiator that I dont want to replace.

Found this thread as I was searching. Just had the oil galley plug blow on my 249k mile 3FE in my FJ62.

We're pursuing an epoxy press plug for a solution, think I turned off the engine before major trauma occurred. Mostly chiming in here to update the observed frequency of this.

Was I talking to you on Instagram about this?

I really need to do this.
I probably watch my oil pressure gauge more than the road.

Glad you caught it in time. Were you traveling or near home?

Commuting to work. Funny enough, my most catastrophic mechanical failures have been in winter on my commute to the office and not on any expeditions.

Being on the highway and seeing that pressure gauge at the bottom while at highway speed was not a good feeling.

When I was in Big Bend last month, I was secretly terrified inside that it would happen in the middle of nowhere. Truck has about 170,000 on it so I’m still feeling pretty cocky on the outside.

If anyone reading this knows that the oil galley plug on your 2F/3FE has not been replaced to it. Don't wait. Even if you keep a very close eye on the oil gauge that may not be enough. I have a friend that had this happen and then needed to have the 2F rebuilt.

I feel so chastised…

It hits a bit harder when a muscle man whipping a snake around says it.
