craigslist HJ60 on craigslist thoughts

Saw this pop up on craigslist and decided to put a deposit on it to hold it for me since I figured it may move quick. What are everyone’s thoughts? Seller sent underbody shots and it is pretty clean - imported from Japan.

I have more pictures as I was interested. Painted over rust, undercarriage rust and rust in the rockers. The seller sells quite a few vans and such on Expedition Portal and isn’t hiding anything from what I can tell. He pointed out flaws and sent me pics of issues.

Seems fairly well priced considering those points though right? He showed up close photos of the flaws as well.

It isn’t bad. I can deal with some rust, but I don’t like unknowns such as what is lurking underneath the undercoating. Doing a new frame wouldn’t be crazy and the price is right. It just wasn’t enough to get me as excited as when I first saw the posting. I am just being fairly picky on a second rig as I have a clean 62 on the drive I am bringing back to its former glory. I think you will have fun with it though. I would recommend having someone local give it a once over though.

it's not imported from Japan, AFAIK Japan is RHD

the auto would kill the deal for me, although it does have air and PS

What in the heck did they do to the rockers?

Truck was originally white. OP, do you know what you are getting into with a flipper who has done a quickie resto on a rusted-out rig?

It looks like a blindfolded monkey resprayed it with rattle cans.

I'll sell you my 86 HJ60 (H55f) for a 3rd of that....you'll just need to rebuild the 2ht. Has some problems.... and frame rust. :frown:

Engine has rust on all non painted surfaces. That's a tell tell sign that the underside is rotten. Bottom of passenger door has been bondo'd. Rockers painted black to hide rust.

$2000 worth of rust repairs as stated and pictured.
Not sure what the disconnect is.
Had everything looked at by a professional prior to purchase.

Not sure where stating $2000 worth of rust repair and send 47 pictures is misleading.

If I kept it. I expected to put $4000- $5000 into it. (Paint, Body, and rust repairs)

The only reason it is not being done is I like my 70 better.

Thanks

Who did you talk to that saw it in person?

Sounds odd because I haven't shown it to anyone.

$2000 worth of rust repair needed as stated and pictured.
Not sure what the disconnect is.

Thanks

I think what some people might deem misleading, is that $4-5K would not cover the cost of a paint job, let alone the rust and body repairs. I'm not trying to give you a hard time, this is just my experience as I was verbally quoted $8-10K or a proper paint job, and this seems to be in line with other people's experience that I've read about. A Maaco special might run $3-4k, but there's not enough left for body work.

Either way, GLWS.

Maybe your body shop is in Manhattan.

I am in Southern VA. I have a much larger vehicle getting painted right now and with bodywork I am less than $2,500 into it. One of the best body shops in the area.

Macco's here charge between 399 and 799 depending on the package you pick.

If you're paying over $1,000 for a single color 2 stage paint job not body work that is high. I could see $1500 based on location. The materials is less then $500. My Corvette has a $1000 paint job on it and it has won several trophies.

I guess some of you are thinking about Barrett-Jackson but I was thinking presentable driver that still goes off road.

I not trying to be rude by any means but very few people here have a $10,000 truck let alone a $10,000 paint job.

I have seen $50 rustoelom paint jobs that would compete with the average 20 year old LC paint job

This turned out looking pretty good from the pictures

Now that's a pretty one! Looking for an automatic for now though :) Maybe I should just teach the SO to drive stick...

Looks like single stage paint to me. Guy describes it as an outdoors truck. he says it runs good but the valve train needs a little bit of work.

If he still has it Sunday it may be mine

Flipper comparing rattle can paint job to original factory paint.

You read something new on Mud every day.

Added the direct quote, lest there be any confusion about the comparison that was made.
