I really like that, and i too also like the tucked away spare. Do you have any interior pics of the back section???????

(but i do have to agree with some of the guys...... its sad to see such a nice cruiser like yours be chopped, but it turned out very well and its your decision)

Nice work...

Kinda looks like a short, but on-steroids FJ75...LOL

Very cool, I started a very similar build up on my 83 FJ60 but haven't any time to work on it lately. Do you have any pics of the floor area behind the seats, this is where I'm running into problems with mine.

Dont know why you guys are saying "its a crime"....or "I feel a little sad"

The 60 series have never been what I would call a good looking vehicle...so I chopped the ugly bit off.

anyways...that all comes down to personal preference I guess...we cant all have trucks that look the same, otherwise the world would be a very boring place..

I have to agree with you that everybody has different taste (and that's a good thing!), but as a supposed "art expert" I have to say that, aesthetically speaking, the 60 series are fine-looking trucks: well-balanced, nice lines, good proportions. And you are definitely right, we don't want to all look the same, that would be boring--so bring on the hot-pink cruisers! :grinpimp:

Awesome work...Time for some bigger meats. Kinda looks like the slee short buss. Very nice work and its cool to see somthing new...

With the rear section (at the bottom), a panel was fabricated to weld to the bottom of the hatch, and then welded to the floor from underneath. This panel also has 2 H channels tacked onto it (inside) for extra strength and support. We rolled the sides to match the rounded corners at the rear.

With the inside panel, a bit of fabrication was done here also. But this was just a 90 degree fold at the top, and another 90 degree fold on the bottom (going the other way though). Another piece was welded in the corners just to neaten things up a little.

Dont know if these pics show what you want to see, but here goes anyway.

P.S Didnt realise the 60's were uncommon over there...I always thought they were a dime a dozen type thing.

The placement for the spare is a common thing over here...keeps it out of harms way, and helps keep C.O.G down low as possible.

Yer, they are tie down rails....I guess...mainly they are there for a bit more protection from trees and so on. And they look BLING!

As for bigger meats...I am already running 35" now. In the state I live in SOA are illegal. So there isnt much more I can do to fit bigger tyres.

The rear windscreen wiper and squirter still work! they aint just there for show. I wanted to keep the button to open the hatch as well...but before I new it a plate was welded over the hole and it was gooooone.

Theres a few 60's dual cabd getting around here actually...but I dont like them. I dont know if its because they used a flatback panel to close it out, or just the general shape.

theres all the other replies done :)

Im a little disapointed too ,I like them chopped to look like this one:D
Oh and nice work by the way,we got plenty of good rust free 60 so keep choppin;)

Excellent job Loomis!

Looks great. I've been thinking about the same for my 60 except I want to keep the tail a little longer for my long range tank.

If you need space for some more (larger) pics shoot me a PM.

Cheers,

Loomis, thanks for posting the pics, they show exactly what I was looking for (how the rear of the cab was enclosed).

Extremely impressive work. I can't believe you did that in a month. But why on earth would you want to turn the impressive beast that is a full sized fj60 into a hobbit??

With the trayback, it looks more balanced
I'd like to see another hoop over the tray at the back, more like a family cage.
I would also consider extending the bar forward to get some more protection for the cab.

Most importantly- the work looks well done!

ditto !

I'ts not my style O love my LWB with sleep room inside :grinpimp: but looks pretty nice as short bus !

Its been a while since I have posted anything recent about my truck...so I thought it about time I did.

A lot has happened over the last few months...

I have recently fitted a turbo kit to the 2H. This made an unbelievable difference to the ol' girl. Even running 35" MTRs it has no problems up hills now. Lets just say I am estatic with the results. The mechanic who I got to tune it in said I have gained approx 30% in power. Just have to watch the right foot though as fuel economy isnt good when driving like a hoon.

A snorkel has been added as well. Dont plan on needing it...but you never know when its going to come in handy. And it sure beats hydrolicing the motor.

The interior is coming along nicely...still isnt finished, but only small fiddly things to do now.

A space case was also fitted to the tray to keep recovery gear and so on in. Comes in handy with the groceries too :)

Replaced the front leaf packs a few months or so ago...and moved the shackle hanger back allowing more of an angle on the shackles to gain more down travel. (well...to get them working properly)

Still deciding what to do with the bum end...its going coil...just dont know whether to run 4 link or a 5 link setup. Maybe when I get a few seconds spare time I will work that one out.

Anyways...A few of you asked for some actions shots...these are from a vid camera so the quality isnt great...but you get the idea!

Oh...and I still have 2 perfectly good sliding rear windows if anyone is interested. I live in Brisbane, Queesland, Australia. If you organise and pay for freight (and the windows or course) they are yours!

I hadn't seen this thread before. For what it's worth I think your truck is incredible. You did a great job.

Only problem is that it looks like someone moved your steering over to the wrong side....

:)

What turbo did you install? Can you post some pics? Not sure when I'm going to get mine moving forward ... but always interested to see what works for other people!
