Looking into options for new side mirrors, my drivers one is alright but passenger needs replacing. Factory mirrors don’t seem great for the price and European style ones are expensive if you can get them.
Found a picture of some defender mirrors and don’t kind the look. Spoke to the owner and he rates them. Thinking of making an adapter to mount them to the factory holes into doors.

Cleaned up my old 80 series brake booster l was saving for my other build and gave it some fresh paint. Looking at installing it on the HJ47 as l have read it’s a great upgrade to the braking system. You a need a spacer for it to work which l have a 19mm spacer in my parts and a thicker one from an early Hilux as well. Also need to clearance the rib on the firewall for it to fit, it installs upside down from the 80 series. Going to cut the thicker one down and getting another booster 2nd hand geniune item. Looks like a lot of cheap eBay ones for sale but the quality is unknown. Did look around for a geniune or seiko brand but nothing for a reasonable price, all up around $700-$800.

Decided to swap the 80 booster into the HJ47, trimmed the rib to clearance and test fit. May have been better to take more off but it fits and is painted to stop any rust. Pedal seemed way too soft and pulls up hard when brake is pressed. So decided to check the booster rod to master clearance and of course it was out by a lot🙄
Was in a hurry to fit it all up up late in the afternoon and missed that bit. So after a few measurements l tried to turn the shaft and adjustment but it was bloody tight, got it eventually but may have put a mark on the shaft. Hopefully this will clean up but l did notice that compared to my other 80 booster the shaft sticks out not as far? Not sure if this is a year model difference thing or not. Might just clean up the shaft and adjust to suit the master and see if it’s ok🤷🏻‍♂️

Got the best of me and removed the booster and gave it a shake, something was loose inside. Pulled the vacuum valve and could see a rubber disc, thinking that’s the reaction disc that should be behind the pushrod. After some careful manoeuvring the disc was back in place and now the shaft sits at the correct height. Warning if your going to clean up and paint your booster be careful not to let this fall out from behind the rod. Glad l took it off now👍

My seats are in reasonable condition but the vinyl is cracking up, decided to try the 79 series landcruiser canvas covers from Toyota. Saw that someone used them but couldn’t get confirmation or pictures that they fitted, so for half the price compared to Black duck l took a chance. Fit is pretty good and the price was right, drivers back rest is a little narrower than the 40 and the bench was a tight fit but look the part.

The weather this year has been the worst l can remember. None stop rain this month so been cleaning up the workshop and moving my spare HJ47 cab onto its new home😉 80 chassis.
Also looking at some options for fuseable links as mine were missing, maybe going to midi fuses instead. Also started to making a new intake tube for the snorkel feed in as the safari set up isn’t very good. Started with a 3” tube and shaped to suit the airbox side. Will loose a bit of the rear mounting bracket but will deal with that as l go.
