The bearing was in good shape, so I cleaned it up and re-assembled.

A Tale of Two Manuals

I recently acquired by way of Ebay a second 1981 Landcruiser Body/Chassis manual. The one I have been using, 36044E, spends a lot of pages on 60 series stuff, and is however useful for such things as the later axle and transfer case set-ups, along with the many 60 series electrical components in my rig. The new one has the gray cover, and is publication number 98154. It covers FJ40,43, 45, 55 series, along with BJ40, 43 series, and HJ45 series.

And what is nice about this new manual, amongst a few points, is that it has the wiring diagrams. Here's the HJ45 page.

Then I noticed that they show the internals of the glow relay at last. The HJ45 used the same simple glow controller that I'm using on my truck, so it stands to reason that the relay would be similar. It shows that the 'S' terminal blade, despite all appearances, DOES connect to something, notably the relay's internal switch, and the black/red stripe from the fusible link at the battery.

here's the completed install of the rear hitch. The forged Toyota chain loop receivers didn't have a long enough threaded stud to work with my hitch, after I had put the 0.375" plate in behind the pintle. So I took the parts to a machine shop, and had them chop off the threaded studs and weld on a 50 mm long grade 10.9 bolt. after welding they ground the weld flush with the base of the ring, and I paid $100.

After getting the fresh paint marred by my thumb prints, i gave the parts a quick re-spray after these photos were snapped.

I will try and make it over soon to see the project.

What ya doing after work tomorrow? Friday.

Might be able to give you some ideas on the body work and gauge how close you are to shooting paint?

If you want.

last one. The big panels (door, hood and roof) are all in that final few % of fine-tuning, while the rest of the bits and pieces are better than that.

Hi Rob,

you're more than welcome to come by and scope it out. I will be there tomorrow afternoon for certain.

Sorry I did not get over today, nother stupid long day at the shop, silly busy these days.

moving things along, little by little.

Decided to get the seam sealer on. New experience for me. The English-made Cox caulking gun is a sweet unit, and the whole thing worked seamlessly. I'm not totally smooth with the rate of movement when I apply it, so some of my beads came out uneven, especially around the front inner edge of the hood. Picture number 3 is of the side of the fender where I started with the sealer application.
