Hilarious Valve Adjustment Estimate

Here's a little laugh for your Tuesday afternoon. Heard mixed reviews about State Automotive in Midvale, Utah, who are supposedly Land Cruiser specialists. Wanted to schedule valve adjustment with them.

And this was after I mentioned the original high price of $1340 and sent over the service manual procedure. I don't know if they use diamond-plated feeler gauges or what but that's not happening. Luckily driving back to where I used to live for the holidays and my favorite shop of all time will do it for a normal price.

Would if I had time. Between work and school, I only DIY stuff that would cost me a lot. It's my only car and daily driver. Steering gearbox rebuild by myself coming soon.

Why do you need it done again.

Supposedly it is due every 15k miles per maintenance schedule. I ignored that because valves sounded fine. Now starting to hear a ticking, slowly getting louder, that is definitely valve clearance related. Been about 31k miles since it was last done.

Probably their software or a human is assuming it's a 1fz fe.

What's the price this time? $285 will buy you only 2 - 3hrs shop time in a lot of places.

Not saying you should, but I've gone well over 100k without adjustments on both my 3FE's.
