Hey All,

My wife isn't commuting anymore and likes weird SUVs (which works out for me, except she won't let me modify it *sigh*). Ran across an LX470 that seems to be well kept with 260k miles on it. I'm gonna go check it out this weekend. Had timing belt and water bump done recently...

The newest Cruiser I've owned is a 96 FZJ80 and while it had its quirks it was rock solid. My FJ62 has 300k miles on it, but with a Cummins and a Toybox, ect... so that's a different story.

So is this a good idea or a terrible idea?

It would be the third car, but it would need to hold together. I'm not looking to do any major overhauls. The air suspension makes me nervous. I'm cool with shocks, tires, brakes and fixing a couple of leaks, but other than that I don't want to bust any knuckles on this thing. That's what the Cummins Cruiser is there for....

Been there done that and would do it again.

It really depends on the service history and how much you expect it will be driven.

IF the vehicle does not have a good service history (beyond the recent T/B W/P replacement) then you are looking at the need to 'base line' it (All fluids, check brakes, hoses, spark plugs). Also with that amount of mileage you would be susceptible to certain other issues that may or may not be important to you.

Suspension parts (primarily bushings, ball joints, seals, etc) are going to have appreciable wear (if original).

The engine itself (if well maintained) I wouldn't give a second thought to. In fact...I would expect another 100K from it though not without certain small leaks.

The AHC system if working properly now...most likely has 'globes' with greatly diminished performance.

Replace the heater Tee's the moment you get one and check out the radiator. Most original radiators will be at or near the end of their useful life.

My Wife's LX has 206K on it now and I wouldn't be afraid to go anywhere in it. I expect it to continue to be that way for many years to come.

Condition (read maintenance) is the Key factor, not mileage. There is no shortage of 100 series Cruisers/LX470's with well over 300K on them... still giving good service.

I recently bought my 98 LC with 336k miles. I have very little concern for its reliability, given its maintenance record.
Go take a look and then dive in.

No worries from my camp. 224K without hesitation. YMMV.

60 has 240K
80 has 340K
100 has 224K

60 and 100 are new to me-less than a year. 100 came with meticulous maintenance records and very little has been done so far by me. The 60 is another story altogether.

Buy with confidence and let me know where to get the 100 series FSM download when you find it.

sold my 2013 minivan and bought the wife a 2007 LX470 with 260k miles on it. No car payment for the WIN... in 18 months, truck has never left us stranded. We have 288k miles on her now...
