Hi and Low beams at the same time?

Are there any heat issues (melting lens ect) with running your hi and low beams at the same time provide you have upgraded the wiring. I am also running high wattage lamps.

Gotta belive there will be heat problems. I've heard of people melting the housings with other cars just by going to too high a wattage bulb. Running both at the same time would surely be more than they were running...

That's assuming that your harness will handle it...even with the upgrade. The weakest link in the circuit is what you have to worry about.

I do it manually now while driving but only for 5 min.or less at a time. The wiring can handle it without a problem. I'm concerned about the housing for extended periods.

My low beams do not turn off when the highs come on and AFIK this is the same in all FZJ80’s, so the headlight assembly is built for it with normal bulbs, the question is weather it can handle the high watt bulbs, the LX has a metal reflector (looks like aluminum?) is the LC the same? If so then everything close to the bulb is fine, the plastic areas you can feel with you hand to see how hot they are getting

Lows stay on with highs on the 80s as mentioned. You don't mention what wattage you're running, however I've gotten away with 100w highs and 80w lows for years at a time. However, I never leave the high beams on when the car's not moving - something I would not be afraid to do with normal wattage bulbs.

Yep you guys are right Thanks for setting me straight :whoops:

And I can answer my question - yes you can run high wattage lamps (100w in both Hi & Low) on high without heat issues...even while sitting still for long periods.

The lens on the 80 is glass isn't it. I can't see you melting that anytime soon.
