So my 94 1FZ is just about to go over the 240,000 mile mark. It still runs very strong and doesnt leak much, if any oil at all. I was going to post up, asking about rebuild and costs, etc. etc. but i did search and found alot of answers. But i still have one question.
My head gasket went at around 200-205k miles. According to what i have read and heard, this is pretty good. Alot later then most 1fz's. My question is....does the time at when your HG goes, have any correlation with how long the engine will go for.
With 240k miles i am starting to think about rebuilds, figuring within the next few years i will have to drop at most(hopefully) about 5k to get the engine all redone and i am totally fine with that. As far as i am concerned, for 5k, what could i get to replace an 80? nothing, nothing even remotely close.
Well, thanks.

If it runs great, keep driving it until it shows signs of going. Have you owned it for all 240k? I would like to get that kind of mileage out of my 97 but it will take me 15 years or so. Proof that with good care, these trucks will go and go and go.

If the HG went at 200K, I hope the shop that did the repair took the extra 10 seconds to check out the bottom end to see what was up; that would have been an appropiate time to tell you a rebuild was needed.

If they did look, and didn't say you needed work, I would take that to mean you're good to go for a while.

Try not to be so paranoid about it. My HG went about 15K ago and I don't think a bit about it now. If/when it goes...it goes. You deal with it.
