Just ordered a bracket and have two new batts coming and I want to beef the alternator up now. Where are you guys getting the 150 Amp Sequoia alts from? I see them on ebay and junk yards for $100ish but I'd rather not roll the dice with a used beat up one if I can help in. Is there a good source for NEW quality ones? Not a huge fan of remans either... If I get a junk yard pull and it tests out bad, is that something my local shop should be able to fix?

What has your track record been with the junk yard vs reman vs new route?

Denso alternators have a history of being very reliable, if I needed a stronger one would have zero problems with a low miles used unit. If you want the best new/reman call cruiserdan.

These only come new with the truck when you buy it.

Anything from a Toyota parts department will be reman.

I purchased my Sequoia alternator from a salvage yard in MN which I found on car-part.com for <$100 shipped and it came with a lifetime warranty. My local starter/alternator guy inspected (tested at 175 amps) without issue, installed it and haven't touched it in two years. I've also had decent luck on eBay as most of the salvage yards participating on car-part.com also list on eBay. If they don't mention a warranty ask for one, if they say no move on as you'll find a company that stands by their product.

I just checked car-part.com and there is quite a selection from $45 up past $175

As Kevin mentioned Denso makes top notch products so I wouldn't be too concerned.

Hi....where did you get the brackets from? I really should put a higher rated alternator because I will be running a bunch of lights for night desert off-roading...

thanks!!

Go to car-parts.com then look for one with relatively low miles. Many junk yards will list the miles on the truck it came from. Find one with something like 50-90K miles on it and you should be fine. Good idea to replace the contacts once you get, since that part is so cheap and easy to replace while its off the truck.

Found mine on carparts.com also. It was a local, 60K mile unit for $75.

They'll probably want your old alt for a core, but I sold mine on mud to help out another mud member for the price of the core ($20).

IMO, this is one of the best mods you can do to an 80.

photoman here on the board. Send him a PM and if he has more, he will certainly hook you up and is great to work with!
