Just scored a pair of Warn W610 lights from eBay very cheap. The bases are rusty, but I got them apart and will wire wheel them, neutralize the surface rust and paint. The housings are stainless, but I'll likely paint them black since my 40 is camo. Should I use a hi-temp paint? While I have them apart, it would be the right time to upgrade the bulbs. They currently have 55W bulbs. I'd like to move up to 100W, but maybe there are other better options? I'm not looking to spend more than $25 or $30 on bulbs so I'm looking for some guidance here. I will be using a Hella harness with switch, relay, etc I got here on MUD.

What bulbs should I consider?
Sources for quality bulbs?
Other advice?

Thanks in advance!

if you upgrade to 100w bulbs make sure you upgrade the wires. personally i did not notice a big enough differance to justify the money. i went with cheepo HIDs for about the same money and that made a big differance also they draw only 4 amps

Thanks Ken. Where did you get your HIDs? How much were they?

Any other advice?

alot of people are selling these including warn, hella, rugged ridge and so on. they are cheap chinese knockoffs. i brought a set of 7 inch and 2 sets of the 4 inch and they work fine. for the price you cant go wrong and the real HIDS are 500 apiece and these are 100 dollars for two. even if they burn out you would have to replace them five times over before you start losing money. mine have lasted 3 to 4 years now and they are good. there are plenty of places that sell them other then ebay. dont worry they are not kc but the covers fit

I buy my bulbs (and lights) from rallylights.com. Good service, prices are fine. Have been purchasing from them for 8+ years.

One thing to keep in mind...100 watt bulbs do put out more light than 55watt, but they also have a much shorter lifespan....1/2 the hours if I remember correctly. For high-speed, higher wattage makes lots of sense, for 4wheeling, longer lifespan makes more sense to me.

...my 2 cents...

Good stuff guys. Thanks much.

Are there LED bulbs available at a reasonable price with 100W + output with much lower draw?

Got a nice reply from superbrightleds.com and they don't have an H3 12V 100W replacement yet.

Looks like I will just find some simple 100W bulbs and finish my rebuild. Thanks

My housings are made for H3 bulbs. I only want one brightness/beam pattern.
So a quality H3 white (not blue) 100W+ 12V is what I need.

Lots of options. Bonus, you can call them and talk on the phone, ask questions, get answers...old fashioned I know.

The warn lights you have are six inch round? Same basic light as the KC and all the generic 6 inch round, yes?

If so, go down to NAPA or any real auto parts store and get 100 watt 6 inch round sealed beam aircraft landing lights. longer lasting then H3 bulbs, more vibration resistant, better reflectors than most H3 lights and cheaper too. Oh yeah... they are SEALED with is more than just a little important if you ever dunk the lights under water.

throw your reflectors and lenses away, toss these in the housing and never look back.

Those Warns are 9" aprox .. and they suck under water .. actually they suck water  one on Tencha had it own gold fish inside right now .. :grinpimp:

Those are H4 hi and low .. feature that I honestly love beside the look of the lamp .. the light that offer with 100/90 H4 it's good .. maybe not the best but decent . .

Well my final goal was look into low draw / heat white light bulb .. looks like I would need to wait few more years to buy the new LED from ARB

Yes. These are 6" round old school metal housing lights. I will definitely look into the 100W sealed beam aircraft landing lights and report back. Thanks for the strong recommendation and for sticking to the parameters set in my original post!
