I just had an aftermarket auxillary fuel cell installed in my 40. It is the one Mark's Off Road sells and is made to the specs of the ConFerr tank that is no longer available. I purchased the sending unit that supposedly works with a stock fuel gauge and the guys can't get the stock gauge or anyother gauge to work... Anybody with suggestions or has dealt with and fixed this sending unit issue? Is there an aftermarket fuel gauge that is known to work with this sending unit? Any and all suggestions appreciated...

Is the sender grounded? IIRC the gauge works by changing the resistance on the ground side of the gauge.

No, it's not supposed to be grounded. The sender, the stock one, at least, works by changing the resistance between the wire terminal and the rest of the metal of the sender. That's why the 2nd wire is screwed down to the case.

I'm not sure what would happen if it was grounded. Maybe it doesn't matter.

To the OP: hook up an ohm meter to the sender and see that it changes resistance through the travel of the float.
