2000 LX470, 190k miles. I just purchased the vehicle.
No work performed prior to reading codes.
Since new to you, do you have service records? LexusOwners history & carfax, are revealing!
The brake pads are needing to be replaced, so I assume that's what the brake light is on for.
No! There is no electronic pad indicator. Wear indicators, rub on rotor and make a squealing sound.
But as pads wear, more brake enters calipers. This fluid level drops. Know how to check fluid level.
I only use Toyota brake fluid.
First and foremost: Brakes should only be worked by those, with high level of mechanical abilities and experienced with brake systems.
With the age of all 100 series today, in our aging fleet. Any issue, with brake master assembly. IMHO, best and safest course of action. Have the whole brake master assembly, replaced with new. If you have to ask question, on "how to", your not qualified to work on the master.
My hope is below link will give better understanding as to what we can do to reduce brake failure and what to watch for. The info is from my experiences and my thinking, as to what...
It doesnt explain the codes, however.
Correct. Pad wear does not set of any dash lights nor DTC's.
Is there a better way to trouble shoot which "sensor" it is? The YAW sensor was around $500, same for the deceleration sensor.
Yes! I've never seen a bad one. So I've not diagnosed. You'll need the FSM, and follow the tree on those DTC. You'll find FSMs (factory Service manual) online, Try the FAQ section, for one. If you're going to wrench, it will be invaluable.
As far as AT fluid, im not sure, I have it on my list to drain/refill with fresh fluid.
Know how to check level first.
I always flush all 12 qts, with Mobil 1 Multi Vehicle ATF. In 98-02 100 series
Automatic Transmission Fluids (ATF) full 12qt flush, 100 series.
- Park on level ground. Set E- brakes and chock (block) tires.
- Drain ATF from Automatic Transmission (AT) pan, by removing the 14mm drain plug and washer (gasket). Yields ~3 qt. (assumes, at factory set level) from cold transmission. Measure, exactly what comes out and record on ledger. I use a 2-gallon catch bucket, with 1 qt gradation marks. A catch bucket, that is short enough, to fit under AT of stock height 100 series.
- Reinstall the 14mm drain plug, using a new crush washer. As always, when installing...
Use to flush PS (power steering) also.
Cleaning power steering reservoir and flushing it's fluid. Keeps Vane pump and rack & pinion in top condition.
These step will help you get, a better idea on how to.
- Power wash reservoir & hoses using a degreaser, before starting service. Makes for cleaner job. Repeat, once all done with servicing/flushing.
- Release hose clamps from hoses of reservoir, sliding them down the hoses a few inches. Do not remove hose yet, just insure they turn freely on reservoir nipples.
- Pull reservoir out of holder. You'll need to release/bend clip outward, on outside of holding bracket...
Tire size is almost stock, 265/70/16.
Almost will change MPH reading if taller or shorter.
See my Master Thread in signature line. Many useful link. Make sure to look close at Alerts. look also at Emerald a 00LX 350K mile restore. Lots of good stuff in that thread.
