Hey guys, I did some digging trying to find the best way to wire my new Rigid D Series lights, but I've found nothing. I'm running the Yotateq rear antenna/light mounts, and I'm curious as to what you guys would recommend for running the wires. I've got them as of right now running through the tail lights and into the space behind the trim in the cargo area; however, i'm not sure if this will allow water in through the gasket. Does anyone have any tips or a better way to wire them?

Thanks,
Harrison.

Yea, I think that is going to leak. Maybe search for how people ran CB wires with that mount. Mine is drilled through the body behind a ball mount.

The compartment behind the tail lights is actually designed to shed water so long as the wiring boot is present and in good condition. But unless you can run the wire through the boot, you'll have to create a penetration in that area that will require gasketing (grommet/FIPG/or both) to maintain the moisture barrier. Otherwise, it'd be a bit easier just to run it the other way, through the hatch opening.

I just did my CB cable through the light like that. I ran the wire through the boot along with the lamp wiring, it was pretty easy to do. Been raining a lot here lately and no leaks. Only thing I did different is I left a little slack in the wire where it comes out of the light and looped it down a bit so any water running down the wire would drip off vs going into the lamp area.

What antenna is that?

Ooh man - that light is going to attract law enforcement attention. A rear facing white light at eye level. At least when they're high up on the roof they seem to have an area light function that's less nefarious.

I have 2 square Hella white work lights as backup illumination.. one on each rear quarter of my LC. They are mounted on the same Yodateq brackets. After 4 years I have not raised any LEO eyebrows. Of course now that I have brought it up.. I will be watching my mirrors all the way home from the adventure we are on.

I hope not! Haven't had any trouble yet but we'll see how long that lasts.

Uh no...its no different than a regular reverse light especially if its wired into the reverse light circuit.

I’d say it just depends on where you live.

Where I live they let some serious junk roll down the road, but my buddies across the line in Virginia get pulled over for light bars and stuff.

If the light isnt being used to blind people behind you on the road like brake checking a tailgater its not an issue. Front facing lightbars and offroad lights usually have specific laws requiring them to be covered unless offroad.

Obviously there are 50 states plus DC and and a lot of different agencies with different policies so its not hard and fast. Its just not that big of an issue and more likely than not, not illegal unless you are turning it on to blind people. People with nice rigs which OPs looks like, probably dont have warrants, drugs or illegal guns.

I dont waste my time stopping cars that are significantly less likely to be committing actual crimes or have warrants.

To get back to the tech of this thread, I run a rear facing LED through the lens and I dont have water intake issues. I think 80s have drain holes like 60 series in the bottom of the quarter panel that can be cleaned out with a ziptie in case of water pooling.
