Hi Guys
My GX 470 has started making these weird noises. Happen only when car is in motion, and is turning. When turning steering while parked no noises, but when steering turned and moving, esp accelerating, s*** hits the fan

I have taken a video. First sequence is in underground parking where sounds get amplified. Then at time "40 seconds into the video " you can hear the sounds in the outdoor video.
Is it CV? Or something else.
I am very worried its something "expensive"
  1. Can you tell me what it is?
  2. What parts do I need to order
  3. What tools do I need
  4. Any instructional videos
  5. Can I keep driving or should I now only drive to the workshop or after a DIY
  6. If I go to a workshop, what will be the labor costs in a regular medium priced outside shop like Toy connection etc., in Santa Clara
Please see video (2 videos, first driving second on jack). Looks like Passenger boot is leaking. What to do next?

Did you do any maintenance to it recently?

CV gone

Thats bad news. The driver side boot looks as good as new. Should they be done as pairs?

Can it be repaired (Rebuild) or should I buy a new CVJ?
How much can I drive this now. To the workshop only, or a 100 miles total in 3-4 days be fine?

Don't drive it until it's fixed. You broke an axle. If it lets go it could lock up, grenade, and take out your various more expensive items in the area. Hard to get a pinpoint, but it sounds like the outer CV bearings are toast. VERY unlikely it is the diff. Sounds like CV or wheel bearing to me. Hard to tell until you are in there. I would park it till you can get it done. If you are close to your shop (if someone else is doing the work) you can get there. Not much more.

you can pick up cheap CVs at your local parts store to get you buy as you wait for your OEM remans to come in. then swap it out again.

I would buy used low mileage OEM CV before getting one from parts store. OEM are just much superior. Somebody even mention that you could use GX460 front CV since they are compatible.

I agree with this however if time is of the essence then getting a cheap CV to get you going "on road" is not a bad idea. Shipping a cvj axle would take a week so depending if you have time to let the car sit there for a week will dictate your decision I guess.
