Recently I was trying to chase a dead rear speaker and found this plug that did not seem to go to anything.. Tried searching but have not found anything to answer my question. Its in the compartment below the rear window washer fluid bag. I am sure one of you geniuses know what its for!

without a picture, or year/model of your vehicle, it's hard to say for sure. There might be a connector for a trailer hitch. The Land Cruiser was made for several different markets with different options but the wiring harness was somewhat generic. So an open connector may not mean that something is missing from your truck.

that's funny. side marker light? As 2mbb says there are connectors that don't necessarily get used on all LCs, depends on options and model.

Well I thought I had added pics to opening post. Here they are! My truck is a 1988 FJ62. Thanks Fellas.

depending how many wires, it could be for trailer wiring (I think this is about 7 wires) or it could be for rear fog lights (this would be two or three wires).

I was converting my trailer wiring plug from the five and one in the center design that was popular years ago to standard flat four pin. I checked the plug in question. With tail light and flashers on one wire was hot all the time, which is tail lights. Nothing on the other three. Did not check to see if one was for the brake light. Will do that this weekend. I checked my 89 FSM and it doesn't show wiring for a trailer that I could find. Production date of my FJ62 is 7/89. I bought out the original owner's lease. Only mod he had done was add twenty pounds of car phone. That was in 7/93 and I installed a receiver hitch right after that. Used the clamp on connectors to go to the convertor. Never given me any trouble but would like to use a plug if available. Even the old FJ40 had a way to plug in wires for a trailer with cutting into the factory harness. Would think these later ones would too.

When I have time I will be checking to see if I have this plug https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/688813-what-electrical-connector-cargo-area.html and would it does. Wonder if it would handle a sub woofer? I installed a later six CD head unit and separate amp. This was plug and play. Even the amp bolted right up above the glove box like stock in other markets like the middle east. The holes in the dash above the glove are for heat off the amp. Looked like it was for a speaker but that didn't make sense with four other speakers already installed.
