There's this douche of a cop who's been out to get me about not having fender flares on my 40. he finally gave me a ticket for it. I was wondering if anyone had ideas of how to contest, ie if there are equipment exemptions for antique vehicles. I'm not from the area and am unfamiliar with NH laws and couldn't find much online.

Thanks!
Eric

This picture gives you a good idea of how they don't stick out an obscene amount, maybe 2". It's the best one I can find (i'm 1000 miles away from my truck right now!)

Wow thats being really picky. Rubber flares or skinnier tires.

I checked over on NEOW. I thought they had a subforum with info relating to local vehicle laws. Usually down in RI you can get out of it if you fix the problem and can prove it. Sounds like you can't change it back because the cop will just ticket you again.

How many times did he pull you over before ticketing you?

You can get away with doing a lot of things to your vehicle in NH. Unfortunately, this is something that local law enforcemement officials in NH are really strict about, and 2" is considered A LOT for a tire to be sticking out in NH. I know more guys that have been ticketed for this than for any other modification to their trucks or cars. Hey, it could be a lot worse!

there should be info on the ticket on how to contest it. You basically ask for a hearing and go plea your case.

If 2" is more than what is allowed by law then you are guilty and deserve the ticket. If he asked you to take care of it and you didn't I don't see where going for a hearing will change anything.

 That right there is some funny stuff, so I had to quote it. It's OK if you don't get it.

It definitely is my fault, because he asked me once before. I thought maybe i'd check with you guys in case there was some antique vehicle exemptions or something. I guess I'll suck it up and pay the fine. I wont' be back in NH for four months, but I'll throw some on when I get back in town.

I think the reason they give you a hard time is that without fenders covering your tires completely you can kick up rocks and debris causing a hazzard for other drivers. I know a lot of old hot rods run open wheels but I think is still illegal.

Good luck with the new mods.

The states tried to crack down on open wheel hot rods (there is an exeption for them because some cars were made in the 30's with no fenders) and the National Street Rod Association threatened lawsuits and the states backed off.

Sorry can't help you with NH law but for MA law: Chapter 90 section 19 reads
"no passenger motor vehicle shall be operated on any way if such vehicle has the side wall or thread of any tire projecting outward beyond the outer portion of the fender or side body panel, unless such vehicle is equipped with four-wheel drive or is otherwise modified and intended for off-the-way use."

is it time we do the same?
Yes! Lift laws suck too! Fight those. I never got a ticket by a cop but the inspection stations always is a hassle.
