Looking at buying a snorkel for the 2014 GX and need some thoughts on which to buy.

LENZDESIGN SHOP - https://lenzdesign.blogspot.com/p/shop-lenzdesign.html#!/Toyota-Land-Cruiser-Prado-150-Snorkel-Kit-Lenzdesign/p/152264268/category=0

Things I like are the color matching option and presumed (by me) better airflow having the scoop facing the windshield. Also like the tight fit to the body and upper snorkel mount being inside the A-pillar rather than on tje outside like the safari. However I'm a little concerned with water climbing the windshield or blowing straight into the opening from the front. Are there any drains near the opening to prevent this from happening?

Really like the alphaequipt snorkel but don't see an option for the GX. Also wonder about airflow with the long version having the rearward facing opening Carbon Fiber Air Snorkel - 5th Gen 4Runner - Long Version - https://alphaequipt.com/collections/snorkels/products/snorkel-system

Or should I stick with a safari/ARB snorkel?

Any thoughts on considering any of these options?

Edit** Putting this link here for myself

You might want to avoid those low profile designs… there were guys over in the Tacoma forum that installed them and they massively restricted the air flow

What's your problem that you are trying to solve? They were originally intended to aid in dust intrusion in convoys. They later sort of morphed into "I want to cross very deep water". Of course there's always the more common, "I like the way they look". I'm fine with all of the above but thought it worth asking why you want/need one.

It's not a need. My wife likes the way they look and wants one for her GX. She is entrusting me to help her make the best decision.

I watched a guy on YouTube adding a Safari snorkel to his 4runner and compared it side by side to a dobinson. He said the best quality was the safari. He also said he had some tests with the safari head and was getting 10HP less until he drilled some holes in the back of the head allowing more airflow through the tube.

BTW are you in Auburn now?/ Alum?

Note to self don't drill holes.

Well just install the one that looks best to her and don't hook it up. That way you won't have any air flow issues. :D

Yes, Alum and just outside of Auburn towards Beauregard. We retired here a couple of years ago on a few acres.

As an engineer my philosophy has always been, "Form must follow function.", even if you have to stretch the function a little, hence why I don't get all the money spent on chroming out a Harley.
For me, yeah, I live in So. Cal. and going through water crossing deeper than ankle deep just doesn't happen around here. My purpose is to get cleaner air when on the trail with our 4x4 club, cooler air from a higher point rather than hot hair coming in close to the ground, and the ram air effect.
All those reasons allow me to justify mounting one, because I like the looks and couldn't put one on for a: "just because it looks cool" reason.
When it's triple digits out and you can cook an egg on the pavement, I'd prefer to get cooler air from a higher source.
And yes, I do see a wee bit of performance in MPG and maybe HP, but probably not measurable by very much.

Haha, you know I could do that and she would probably be fine with it. But it would make me sick everytime I looked at the GX just knowing that little tube behind the fender was missing.

After I asked you about yourself last night, I had a feeling of deja vu. I apologize if I already asked you before. It seems I remember your avatar from a few years ago but I don't know. We live in Beauregard as well near the middle school. I'm rarely ever on here or any truck forums anymore unless I get a wild hair or my wife asks me to do something to the truck such as this snorkel topic.

Still working on my shop setup but I do have a lift installed. Happy to help if you ever have need. We are halfway between the La-Z-Bee and Marvin Parkway so pretty close to you.
Trying to get my shop build started. Need to get someone out here to pour a slab so I can get to work on construction. I want enough space so my son can also work on his projects as well. He's been making things since he was a toddler, 12 now. I gave him my old 3rd gen 4runner and plan to help him work on that to make it like he wants it.

Take a look at the expansion I’m working on. Slab starts on post 120.

PM me if you want any of my contractor’s details.

That's a really nice shop you have there! Liked the orange and blue striping. Very nice collection of vehicles too. I hope to have mine constructed by this time next year if all goes as planned. Just putting up a 24x60 pole barn using anchored brackets instead of buried poles. The thought of wood rotting underground bothers me to no end.

Thanks. Yes I wouldn't be too keen to put up a permanent structure with buried poles either. Again, I was very happy with my site prep and concrete contractors. Let me know if you need a contact.

Good luck with the construction. Prices are still pretty high. So glad I'm not building a house right now.

I'm getting garage/shop envy...
I'm stuck with a 1 car garage filled with surfboards, paddle boards, wetsuits, skis, a small work bench and my large stacked tool box. But some of my cool stuff like my welders, tube benders, etc. are all stuffed in the back and I only have a 120 VAC on a small breaker. I've tried using my MIG and when the "garage" fridge comes on and I'm running a bead, it pops the breaker.

I know... first world problems living near the beach.

Saw this while browsing Google, similar to the lenzdesign style:

Maybe it's me, but the opening (area²) doesn't look like it's as large as my traditional snorkel. Curious what the opening size is on both.
If someone gets/has this type of aero looking snorkel and wants to take the time to measure and post the area of the opening, I'll do the same.

I might buy this one at some point, pretty into it haha. If I do, I'll measure it for sure.
