Help me decide on tires

Jason, I'm all about some used tires but some of the folks on CL are smoking crack selling bald tires for $500.

NO TIRE performs well in wet clay. The year we went to GSMTR in E Tenn. and it rained the night before, was the slickest I've ever experienced. Jason and I went out the first day and made it like 100 yards on the easiest of trails. Both fully locked and I was on BFG KMs and he was on IROKs IIRC. That day I think we saw every tire on the planet submit to the clay - I guess a Bogger would maybe be a little better???

My point is, if you are judging tires on performance in wet clay, you most likely are always going to be less than impressed.

Reminds me of a race many years ago in Martinsville. 2 days of rain and some special kind of VA red clay. We had 4x4's that couldn't get to the starting line to say nothing of all the tow rigs. Only one tire could move in the stuff and only with lots of throttle.

I agree and the good ones are all the wrong sizes :)

But if patient they can show up. Just missed some take off 315 BFG Ats for 400. Waiting for someone here to show up with em. Lol.

I remember those WET days at Leatherwood Park. Once I remember seeing red mud mixed with mica run out from the body seams for many months. That place was mega slick!

I will now speak heresy in this, The Age of The Fat Tire: if slick mud/clay is your worry, then whatever brand/model tire you select, buy the SKINNIEST tire you can get in your desired diameter

I know you decided, but wanted to put some doubt to your decision. What are friends for anyway?

6 plys, old school, deep threads, Man Tires. price on the site is shipped.

I ran those in the 80s on Toyota Pickups ... Rough as hell, noisy, no tread life, but dayummm would they pull me through chit on the hunting lease in LA

(That's lower Alabama)

Buckshots, Gumbo Monster Mudders and Ground Hawgs were the go-to mud tires of the early 80's. All the cool kids ran them and they seriously sucked on the street. They worked well on the trails though as Sam said.

Speaking of man tires...I just picked up a set of 57" Boggers (1/10th scale of course) for Nathan's Rubi Wraith. Shhhh! They are gonna' be his birthday present! I assembled one for a test fit last night after he went to bed.

Remember Desert Dogs as well. Sold all those in the 4WD shop I owned in the late 70's. To bad I was about 15 years to early.

You're a good dad Dave, I am sure Nathan is gonna love his new treads. He's a cool kid. :)
