This thing was laying on top of the engine cover and fell out when I removed it. Any idea what it is?

Flip it over and also provide more context.

You opened the hood, and it was laying on top of the big "V8 4700" cover? Or you removed that cover and in the process it fell out somehow?

I'm here for the show!

Doesn't look relevant to your cruiser but you need to post more info / pics from other angles and we can help

It was sitting loose on top of the underbelly cover. I noticed the cover was heavier than usual while removing it when this thing rolled off and hit the ground.

I'll get some more pictures later today. I appreciate you offering to help!

Looks like the steering shaft thrust stopper. Any chance the recall work was done recently?

I think this is it. Glad I asked before I died in a fiery wreck!

The previous owner took it to the dealer for everything so my guess is it was addressed when the recall was first announced.

According to the diagram this should be the replacament part. It may have been installed incorrectly if it fell out. I'd investigate this ASAP!

I thought the bolt backed off and the part fell off, but it looks like that wasn't the case?
Correct me if I'm wrong but the part is supposed to between that boot and yoke right?
Did the dealership never bolt in the part?

I'm guessing the upper sliding yoke bolt should pass thru the tab on the part to hold it in place?

Is this recall still open? This prompted me to want to check and sure enough I have the old style installed still. Would love to get it replaced for free.
