Disclaimer: Just started learning more about cars and have limited knowledge but my background is mechanical engineering so if you point me in the right direction I'll learn quickly.

I just recently bought this 80 and naively believed the owner when they said it had no leaks. I looked under the truck and found these.

The first two seem to be cold water? And it also looks like their origin is somewhere further inside, not the "plate" where the liquid is dripping from to the ground.

The other leak is definitely oil, not sure of the type and it's coming from the front axle, I'm not sure on the exact name of that component.

The (what seems to be) water leak drips about every 30-40 seconds that I was watching and the front axle I didn't see it drip while I was looking at it.

Hopefully can someone identity these leaks, their causes, and degree of concern.

Thanks

The cold water is likely from the AC condensate drain. Normal.

The oil leak looks like it could be from the pinon seal. But you may want to get under there and clean everything off and then recheck after a drive.

there are various engine seals that will drip oil onto your front diff. I found that the valve cover gasket was contributing to 80% of my drips.

I will try to get better pics in the morning. The previous owner (she's on here somewhere) did the valve cover gasket herself so I would speculate maybe not that?

Thanks guys, I'll have more pics/info soon

Powerwash it from underneath. Or get some engine cleaner spray if it is gunked up. Get it clean first then it is easier to track that leak.

And yes, I am an expert at tracking oil leaks. haha. Just not on the fancy 1FZ. :)

Dont take her word for it. Inspect every inch of it to rule it out.

get a flashlight and visually inspect the seam between the block and the valve cover, look for oil seeping out. Especially near cylinder 6, (closest to the firewall)

How would I check the valve cover gasket for leaks?

Well, if you look around the valve cover you will see oil coming out at the bottom of the valve cover.

The first thing you should do is clean the engine thoroughly. If it is leaking this much it has probably sprayed all over the engine and is difficult to tell where it is coming from. If you don't feel like cleaning it there are detailing companies that will do it. Of course they charge money to do it. Get your hands dirty and get after it. The satisfaction of finding the leak, then repairing it, will be worth it. :)
