I have searched threads, and I can’t seem to find out what the issue is. Here is what it happening: my ’78 with 350 sbc has died on my twice in the last week. It was bucking a little, but I figured it was because I was running at lower rpms in 4th gear. After driving for about 20 minutes it just died. Once I pulled over it would fire for a second, but not run. So I got a ride back to get my truck to tow it back, and by the time I got back to it, it fired right up and drove home. It was probably the warmest weather that I have driven in since I got it, so I thought maybe vapor lock. I wasn’t really sure what to look for. So I did the searches and did a lot of reading as to what it might be, and went for another drive over lunch, and it happened again. I immediately removed the gas cap, and it was venting fine (did not suck in any air), I felt all of the fuel lines, and all felt cool to the touch, and they don’t run anywhere near any heat until after the electric fuel pump. Oil is fine, antifreeze is fine, the entire engine compartment feels really hot to me, but I am still new to this rig, and I am trying to learn what it normal for it.

So I just sat for a while and tried starting it every once and a while. Then while I was sitting in it, I heard a click or tap or something. And I have no idea if it is related, but I pumped the gas once and it fired right up, and drove home. The only other thing that I can think of is that it is a little over filled with oil. It has been burning quite a bit lately, so I didn’t think it would hurt to have a little extra in there.

Sorry about the rambling, but I am a little frustrated, and I wanted to make sure I included all of the symptoms.
Does anyone have any ideas what it might be, or what else I should check.

Thanks,

Jim

When it dies again, you need to check and see if it is getting fuel to the carb & in the carb, and also see if it has spark. This will help in diagnosis.
