Putting the hub and rotor back on the spindle - exactly how far back is the inner bearing seal supposed to go? I find that the groove at 12 noon position at end of the spindle is not exposed to even get the special part on it once the outer bearing is in place. also the threads are not exposed to put the nut on which is supposed to help for the pre load on the inner bearing.

have cleaned and regreased the hub, lubricated the spindle had some machine shop replace both bearing races. still not going back far enough even with some hammer blows from a 3 pound.

The bad news is that you may have to clean up the internals on the hub to check to make sure the machine shop got the outer bearing races seated all the way 100% against the steps of the bore. Can't see all that if it is covered in grease. That would cause the inner bearing to sit too far out for proper seating. John

inner bearings race position looks fine after the grease is cleaned off.

Maybe take some measurements with a mic and see if you have the right bearings....that it will fit on the spindle. If thats not the case then you prob arent "rocking" it enough when you are trying to install.

Sorry if this is stating the obvious....

Do you have the inner bearing in the inner position or did the bearings get switched and have the larger bore bearing in the outer position? Are the bearings pointing the right direction for the races and not in backwards?

And we have a diagnosis.....

The f****ing inner bearing race actually separated from the bearing in the hub and is stuck on the spindle.

So it needs a 3-jaw puller to get that off before the hub will ride all the way to its final destination.

Same thing happened to me a couple weeks back

I just cut it off with a wiz wheel and polished the spindle before installing new bearings.
