You will need to radius out the opening of the ARB carrier.

Just did this in camp at the BHCC a couple weeks back....

There are pictures of this trapped in a camera of a computer guy.....

Interesting routing of the copper air tube....

I think the block go's in before the ring gear go's on with the 4.88's?

I see another problem with the air supply line I have not seen it ran like that before.

Cannot be done that way....C-clips have to go on the axles...

After I posted I hit my self in the head:doh:

My first though was to not grind the ARB and instead grind the teeth and put something to cover the arb. Grinder the arb won't it fill it up with bad dust? And do you think grinding the opening in the arb is enough or i will need to touch the teeth?

Sucks having to do this on the floor....arg....

I have A LOT of pictures of doing just this in camp at the BHCC....

I used a rotary air tool/die grinder and a carbide cutting bit.

Stuffed the opening for the ARB with a rag and taped it in place with duct tape.

Works great.

I *might* be able to get pictures up in a couple hours.

What did you tape? the rag or the arb so it didn't rotate?

The rag into the opening, sealing it off...

Pictures will make this very clear.

I will see what I can do for you bud.

I ground the inside edge of the teeth, per recommendation of the guys at Rocklogic4x4 (where I bought the gears):

Ok...Here are the pics.

This was done in camp while at BHCC, 18 JUL 07

I do not like grinding any more of the ring gear than is required to get the cross shaft in. The material removed from the air locker housing does not effect the strength of the unit.

Did I mention that this was done in camp? ;)

Thanks everyone,

I got my die grinder and bit, so tonight i'll do this laying on the garage floor, shouldn't be too hard. I may go with a combination of teeth and arb grinding. From what i see poser didn't grind up to the inside of the ARB casing, so it shouldn't affect strength of it, really.

Who would think of carrying a ARB for spare! not me with my tinny 34" rubber..
You rock Poser! thanks all

This is actually the first year that I went out there and did not bring one with. The ARB, along with the 4.88 gear set and bearings were flown into camp....

Oh the joy of camp repairs... At GSMTR a few years ago we flew in gears and did a diff setup in camp but had nowhere near the tools it looks like you have on that truck. Is that your mobile workshop/tow rig created from an old U-haul truck? If so, that is a great idea. I have thought about buying a utility body truck and using that for a mobile workshop/tow rig to take to events but the box truck really opens up some options.

eleblanc, If that is one of the new ARBs with the soft copper air line I don't think your routing is going to work and your air line will fail very soon. Look at the install guide, it goes into great detail about how you need to route and install that seal housing and tube.

I've been using it like that for a year. Except this winter. Locker was bought last summer. I had someone install it

What you mean "soft copper" to my copper is copper is there such a thing has soft? or you mean smaller wall

It is not used as a tow rig, but rather, a support truck. It is just another means of transporting tools, spare parts and anything else we will need with us. It also worked well this year as a workbench.... ;) after picking up a 5.5" Wilton vise and some other goodies from Mike at Shoener Machine & Tool Supply in Rapid City, and making a mouting plate for it to slide into the receiver.

The tow rig is off to the right in this picture:

There are a lot more pictures of the trip and BHCC event that will be at Mindcrater.com in a few days.
