It's happened to me. I'm experiencing the dreaded 'brake failure', and I was hoping compassionate and knowledgable people on this list could help assure me that I'm doing the right thing to respond. (I trust my mechanic, but he's not the best communicator.)

Last week, I experiences the 'buzzer' and dashboard brake light indicators (ABS and Brake, I think). Shortly afterwards, the power brakes failed.

I studied mud posts on this topic including the pinned thread and others like this one.

My mechanic asked me to order the replacement part. (But he wasn't specific about what part he was expecting.). Because the symptoms were consistent with what I'd read here, and because I needed to be cost conscience, I ordered a replacement electric motor from Auto Electric Rebuilders in Santa Ana, CA. My mechanic thought I was going to order the whole assembly, but he swapped out the motor.

It didn't solve the problem. In fact, my mechanic said that the motor was getting very hot to the touch while running. He had to disconnect the battery to protect the new motor. That's when he insisted I get a new assembly. (He then shared the error codes he'd received from my truck: C1223, C1252, C1256, C1231, and C0278.)

So I'm going to order one from McGeorge. They have the best price I could find online.

This feels like the best and most complete solution to the problem. Am I missing anything?

Thanks in advance for advice, if you have any.

P.S. Unless the shop will take it back, I'll likely have a rebuilt ABS pump motor that I could sell to the next person who needs one.
