I started looking at 100s this evening online.. I am intrigued. Is the seating position more truck like or more car like, (similar to the 4th gen 4R)? Also the 2uz is the same engine as in the V8 4runner, correct? Does it have the same manifold cracking issue? Need timing belt and H20 pump replaced at 90k? Thanks.

The seating is more upright so it's more truck like, but considerably more comfortable.

The 100 does have the 2UZ-FE and does need a timing belt job at 98k miles. I did mine at 118k and the belt looked fine. Do a search and you'll find that most go over the recommended change interval.

The exhaust manifold does tend to crack on the driver's side, but it wasn't worth me spending hundreds on it due to it only having a slight tick-tick sound on start up. The sound disappears once warm.

Other than that, I only had to swap out one O2 sensor and two ignition packs during the 70k or so miles that I had the 100.

Truck is sold land cruiser here I come! I am pretty sure I'm have narrowed it down to an 80 or100. I have a favor to ask though ,as if all my questions havn't been annoying enough ;). Is there anyone out there with either an 80 or 100 that would let sit in one and try it on for size? I know this is an odd request but most of the trucks I am looking at are quite a distance away so I want to be darn certain I like it before I spend money to send out an inspector, etc. Thanks once more for all the help. I hope some day I get the chance to return the favor.

Just go to Edwin's BBQ tomorrow at his shop and you can check out a couple of different rigs. You can sit in my 80 and see if it fits you.

Ok so I am narrowed down to a 100. I am looking at two that are for sale here locally on CL. one is a 99 with 137k (belt has been done) for 11k and one is a 2001 with 105K (belt not done) for 15k. Is 137k vs 105K that big of a difference when dealing with these trucks. Is there any reason I should favor one year over the other? Thanks!

-Karl

unfortunately on the 2001 I already haggled down from 17k. But for that mileage and year, around 15k seems pretty consistent with what I have been seeing on autotrader. So you think the 01 simply for the 4pinion and atrac?

-Karl

I wouldn't write off the 99. Have you seen it in person? Does it have a rear locker? 135k miles isn't bad and you don't have to worry about the t-belt job ($800-1k).

yeah it has the locker. Haven't seen it in person yet as I am on overtime at work. If I can swing it and they are both still available I think I am gonna go take a look at them this weekend.

Holy smokes that's a lot of coin.

True.

But if I start adding up all the money I've put into mine (fj60) over the years, it is probably more and climbing. The addiction never ends.

Haha..yeah its easier to just think about what I paid originally on mine rather than all the coin I've dumped into them over the years.

Yeah that one is a bit out of the initial price range I have been authorized for :). I am really leaning twords a 100 but of course the moment I decide to get a v8 gas decides to go climbing like sir Edmund Hillary. I really want the 100 but this thing also has to be a DD so now I am back to at least considering a 4runner or taco simply for the Mpg. If I end up goin that route will everyone still let me come over to play? Or will I be ostrascised ( and I 'm not talking lage flightless bird aerobics)?

No worries. Ostracized is a big word in these here parts, so most folks probably just skipped over it! :p

Hell, if the twin turboed Supra had a high & low range transfer case in it you'd still be welcome.... "Any Toyata vehicle with a high and low range T-case" is what the TLCA web site sez...I think...
