Is there a way to test the system if I were looking to buy a used GX?

Probably can't test ATRAC directly without causing wheel slippage on one or more of the wheels. Like in this video

ATRAC relies on the ABS system, so if ABS is working and there are no codes or lights from the computer about ATRAC, probably a good chance it's working.

DAC is great. I’ve used it several times on the trail while going downhill. The brakes sound like they are grinding big time, but it works great. No issue with DAC.

ATRAC is not DAC. Do not confuse the two

ATRAC is 100% completely automatic for me. I've never had to press the brake and accelerate at the same time, just gas. It comes on when it detects slippage. And it works! I hear ATRAC's noisy brake activation. And then my GX gets past the bad traction situation. How much noise it makes will depend on how bad you're stuck.

The best way to familiarize yourself with ATRAC is to drive on a trail or an obstacle course at a terrain park.

You can get a feel of what it sounds and acts like by turning on DAC or "Downhill Assist" and let the car down a steep hill. You're hear what ATRAC sounds like because DAC activates the brakes in a similar way. DAC is way more noisier actually.
Exactly, I don’t need the brakes either for ATRAC activation. The first time you use it or it comes on, it’ll scare you because it’s noisy. And totally agree with you DAC is even MORE noisy.

ATRAC is automatic. If you don't have your CDL locked in 4L don't expect much. It needs to be fully locked to make it work well. If you are in 4L and want to "encourage" ATRAC to be more responsive, you can feather your brake to engage it more quickly (the pads will be seated so it will grib faster, and the brakes being engaged will prime the response and wheel slip will be detected sooner). People using 4H or 4L with no CDL can't say a damn thing about ATRAC as they aren't using it properly. This is me, 4L, CDL locked, not using the brake at all....ATRAC DOES WORK:

Awesome video. This video put me over the edge in wanting a GX
