Hi all,
I'd like to make some new Cruiser friends in the area for trips and to work on cars with, so I thought I'd introduce myself. My name's Jack and I'm newly based in Lynnwood WA. I'm currently driving and working on a relatively stock 1997 FZJ80 that I've had for about a year. She's not perfect and has had a number of issues with fixes to get running and driving well; but each fix seems to improve the truck drastically. I'm not a trained mechanic but I enjoy learning and working on cars!
I've done a few smaller jobs in this such as front wheel bearing replacement, front drive shaft u-joint replacement, and spring + shock replacement. I've also had professional help from Tor Fab on a head gasket + head replacement, which has been working flawlessly. Some projects I'm planning on doing myself in the next year are to rebuild the knuckles, repack/replace rear wheel bearings, replace rotors + pads + brake lines, refresh calipers, steering pump rebuild, and removing roof rails + cleaning up paint on roof. I'll be using the FSM and the forums to get a better idea of each step but would also benefit from working on these things with local members. I hope to meet more people in the PNW face to face as I've seen a number of 80s driving around the area! I'll aim to get out to local meetups as much as I can but in the mean time feel free to DM me or reply to this thread.
Even with a bad head gasket we didn't get stranded out at Snoqualmie pass.
Back from the grave and camping up in Whistler, BC for a ski touring trip.
Stock Dobinsons and maybe taller springs in the future?
Almost drawers, haha, having some open cubby space to put things like a water tank and tool bag is also pretty convenient.
