My heater control valve crumbled in my sweaty, greasy palms. I just stood there looking at it in much sorrow and disbelief.

For clarification, this is part number: 87240-60140.

Is there a brass alternative to the OEM? I've seen brass heater control valves but am not sure they'll work. It appears a fairly simple valve and so I am considering giving a brass unit a shot.

I've searched 'mud and come up dry.

was in an emergent pinch myself under the same circumstances.

dealer quoted my like $125 for the heater valve plus it was a special order - ready in a week. said fux it - went straight to napa got a replacement. wasnt a "denso" but appears very solid and sure enough to last the rest of the life i will have my cruiser. also only $40.00.

Ok. Thanks for the Napa reference and part number. Hopefully someone local will have it in stock.

I had to replace mine also after my motor rebuild. I wish i would of known there was a cheaper alternative, i went OEM... mostly for peace of mind.

So which direction does the coolant flow? Is it from the heater control valve towards the PHH, or from the PHH towards the heater control valve.

Yeah I took it apart before checking and I'm a 0.5:)banana:) mechanic. :(

I want to say right to left when your looking at it from the front. Then loops back to the right into the heater core and out on the left side.

got a question about my heater valve... when i have the hot all the way on the little arm is perfectly parallel to the hoses, like would be logical for opening...

but when i have it on all the way cold, it is not perfectly perpendicular... should it be? the picture in #10 looks a lot more perpendicular than mine does...

is it supposed to go at a 90 degree angle when turned from all the way hot to all the way cold? is there an adjustment for that?

I also got the cheaper alternative. It looks and acts just like the OEM. Also, I thinK I remember an arrow for water flow direction.

All good, still working fine. They are likely the same part, just sold under different brands.
